A Corvair is a strange duck. I am also familiar with them. I dont own 8, or even 1. but its essentially a giant air cooled lawn mower engine and sounds like it too.

I'm around Matts age - back in the early 60s my Dads young family needed a 2nd car and Dad got Mom a 'new to us' Corvair - metallic blue. And then Ralph Nader came along yelling "Unsafe at ANY speed" due to a wimpy steering tie rod arm that was not addressed quickly by the manufacturer. Consumer Protection began here. Seat belts were next. Well, you can imagine how Dads "UNSAFE" car went over with Mom... It wasn't reliable and rusted in the Canadian climate. The running joke about Dad trying to get Mom killed went on for YEARS. One trip with me in a bassinet on the back seat (!!??!) she had to hit the brakes and my bassinet flipped over, upside down into to the space behind the seats! That would be bad enough but Mom knew that directly under the car mat behind the front seat was a rust hole big enough to drop a football through! The snow carpet saved my life to allow me to share this story. To this day I chase Corvairs and marvel at their strange design. Would never drive one. 🙂

I took my DIL ‘s new car to store onetime. Couldn’t figure out how to turn it off or roll down the windows. Very embarrassing. Had to call her. Very humbling.

When I lived in Kenya in the 1970s this type of "off roading" was what we called secondary roads. 2wd in deep mud? Normal April. Driving around damaged bridges through dry riverbeds? Just a minor detour on a main highway.

The minivan shows us that we need more masculinity in life. If a real man were in that woman’s life, she would have known not to try that. This is living proof that there are people who actually are oblivious to things that could harm them. Ask yourself “Let’s drive a minivan in the middle of nowhere far out away from civilization IN THE SAND!” Come on people. If you can’t grasp the negatives on this decision, Matt’s off road recovery is just a phone call away! That is if you have cell service. Battery life. Food. Necessities for a blistering hot day or a sub zero night. News flash! A hybrid minivan AINT gonna work in these conditions my friends! Spread the word! People die doing crap like this! I don’t laugh when I see this, I actually ask myself what brought them to this decision and the same reason comes to mind. THEY DONT UNDERSTAND HOW MOTHER NATURE WORKS! Pisses me off really. Money, time, others out in danger to save them from a situation that ANY human being could see was a dangerous place to be! Basically, they are selfish and privileged to the point that they actually believe that way the crap out of nowhere SOMEONE WILL come to their rescue! Guess what?! In reality, that someone might not be able to. Then you die. STOP TAKING VEHICLES INTO PLACES THEY ARENT DESIGNED TO BE INTENDED TO GO! If you’re in the desert, you better be in a desert vehicle. Please for the love of God stop being selfish and putting other people’s lives at stake and understand that a hybrid minivan does NOT belong ANYWHERE NEAR gravel or ANYWHERE NEAR SAND! My God this pisses me off to no end! Some people are so far out there they don’t understand mechanical engineering at the sub level! The next two generations are screwed. Flat out dependent on the Government. I’m out! I’m Gen X so that’s why I’m pissed. Google the upbringing of Gen X and you’ll understand why I’m pissed! On a side note…..I wouldn’t have taken the call knowing it was a minivan. I would have farmed it out. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

At least they’e out there trying to live life and have fun. I’d take someone doing that and learning some lessons over most of the UKposts commenters.
