Ive always thought as a californian, we don’t realize how good we have it. Living in the heart of Los Angeles we have everything. 1.5 hours to big bear and the snow. 45 min to the beach. 30 minutes to the Hollywood hills. 3 hours to mexico. 4 hours to vegas. Every weekend in high school having parties or plans to go out. Amazing weather. Amazing food from everywhere. All types of interesting people. I never realized how diverse my school was growing up eating at my friends house trying all their traditional meals. Mexican, soul , korean, chinese, armenian… Good times. This song rekindles the memories.

and then you get houses that would normally be affordable for middle-class now often go for nearly half a million dollars a pop ridiculous regulations regarding everything basic groceries and gasoline are more expensive often there are places in the state that have been badly neglected homeless people all over the cities, leaving poop and garbage everywhere the theme parks (when they were open) take you for every penny you brought, as do the hotels the beaches are not as pretty as they used to be. (Hint: don’t use the public bathrooms in Oceanside. You need a Tetanus shot just from looking at them). Some of the tourist spots are also overrated and overpriced, such as Monterey Bay, which has little more than the aquarium and a bunch of shops and restaurants (more ways to separate you from your money), or Muir Woods charges through the nose for lunches if you make the mistake of eating the food provided at the visitor center. Oh yeah, if you plan on driving through L.A, always go 5 hours early to any place you plan to visit; that’s how bad the traffic jams are.

I figured out why I love this song so much despite the fact I’m not from California nor have I even been to Cali. It’s because it’s always so nice to hear someone sing about their home so passionately. West Virginia is one of the most popular songs ever and I believe its for that exact reason, you can easily tell there’s so much passion behind the music and it’s something we can all relate to in some way, our love of where we came from, our home.

Never been, but man, this song definitely gives me the feels. This album is dope, Tree, you really hit the fucking mark. Visited Cali for the first time last year. Ventured up and down the coast from L.A. to Santa Cruz and back for two weeks. Weather- incredible. Landscape - incredible. Wildlife - incredible. Traffic - nightmare. Homeless situation - beyond out of control. People - I've met worse on the east coast. Cost of everything - insane. But damn if it wasn't amazing, even with all the bullshit. People who live there should appreciate it, at least along the coast.

I was born and raised in L.A Cali until I was 22 years old. Moved because I needed to grow as a person and wanted to check out the world. I'm 29 now and this song makes me want to not just go back to Cali but it makes me miss the old times with my family and friends there. Take me back to those times when life was so much simpler.

I was just about to comment that. I loved the entire album aside from this track. It just seemed a bit repetitive and didn't fit the vibe the rest of the album did. Overall one of my favorite albums ever
