Several thoughts are springing from my mind: The silhouette of the young ballerina while you were rehearsing "Roxanne"... it gives one pause. People can interpret art, song. and poetry in many ways. In this instance I am seeing Roxanne as a little girl in her formative years- far from the days she would have to take money to do what she does. Without judgement, there are prostitutes that do what they do because that's what they want to do, and there are times where there are those in desperation, and those who have become slaves or even worse in that profession. I didn't want to go that dark, but sadly it is the truth. But going back to Roxanne, as a girl, in her innocent days of carefree life, it's nice to think of this character we have all painted in our minds (thanks to Sting, Andy, and Stewart, but largely Sting for continuing to play & evolve this song since 1985) as a person without a job, without judgement, as just a girl being free. How the mind sees the facets painted in song, and in art is still fascinating to me as an artist myself. If someone sees one of my pieces, and they ask, "What does it mean?" I ask them what they see. I love the different points of view, and in most instances, they have something that adds to the painting or drawing in some way. Sometimes, though, a cigar is just a cigar. Haha.
