TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy Pixel 8 Pro vs OnePlus 12! It's a battle fought in premium territory.
Google is nudging up the price of the Pixel just as OnePlus is making more of a play to undercut other expensive phones. It's a close fight on paper, but which would be the right fit for your needs?

I think many consumers, if you are a long-time Android user, battery life is in the top 3 needs for Android. While both of these phones have better battery life than in previous years, oneplus is killing it for longevity and charging time. For me when i forget to charge my phone and then realize I'm going to be out and not near a charger, in the time that i shower and get ready to head out to work or play my oneplus will be charged to 100%. If the oneplus adapts some of the Google features like call screening or samsung circle to search, i can see myself using this phone for a few years.

OnePlus 12 is the better phone. Pixel AI features aren't enough to pick it over the OnePlus 12. See that i left out "camera" from the Pixel. Thats because yes the Pixels camera is amazing. But its not enough anymore to pick the Pixel over other flagships anymore. OnePlus camera is more than good enough for whatever you put it through. Google needs to stop banking on the camera every year. And Im a die hard Pixel fan. I have the Pixel 7 pro. Its sad for me to say. It will be my last Pixel unless Google really switches up things.

(ones I've been tinkering around with are MotionCam & Filmic Pro) Recently, I've discovering some video recording software are able to fully utilise the entire phone sensor & full camera controls (more precise & more loadouts compared to stock pro settings in most phones). I really like my Pixel 8 Pro but bought a One Plus 12 last week just to try it out. I've had it since Friday and I have quickly realized how little I use those AI features on my pixel. I had it configured to auto call screen any "suspicious" or "spam" calls but basically as soon as the google assistant introduces itself the person on the other end hangs up. I have achieved the same result by enabling call filtering on my OnePlus 12 to just send suspicious/spam calls directly voicemail. Direct my call has never worked for me and while I used to love Hold For Me these days I'm rarely if ever on hold because support is much easier to do over chat or email than to deal with a call center. Overall the QoL features, fast charging/amazing battery life, and raw performance of the One Plus 12 has me strongly considering keeping it as my daily driver over the Pixel 8 Pro. I also got the Gcam app port on the One Plus so it uses googles picture computation on the One Plus. Both phones are great but is anybody really out here recomposing and heavily editing their photos into something else with AI? Other than to show it off to friends or horse around? I'll admit the pixel takes a better pick up and point pic, but the One Plus 12 is not that far behind in most cases and does more than well enough for posting on social media etc. I wish Google would go back to using flagship snapdragon processors on their phones.

OnePlus has me not interesting in the Pixel as much. I still have a Pixel Fold that I use, occasionally, but I feel like Google is too simple in some ways. It is a great smartphone for those who get lots of spam calls, those who just want to point and shoot and don't mind Google's post processing, don't mind waiting for the cloud video processing and don't mind the few missing features. I really do feel like Google has taken the "iPhone of Android" a bit too far. Lack of video out, the data transfer speeds for the port being slower and charging being frustratingly slow compared to the other Android options we have. I am also concerned with how they have already decided to leave the Pixel 8, non Pro model behind in features and that 7 years of OS and Feature updates isn't really as meaningful as what they marketed it to be. If they'd have said OS and security updates, but left out the "feature updates", I would be more okay with it. I know other companies don't bring features to their older devices, even when they support them with OS updates, but they also don't advertise that as a selling point. I'm concerned with the direction that Google is heading and seeing other OEMs offer more for less and available in the same and more markets, has me struggling to want to get any more Pixels for a while. They have left my Fold in the dust for features and the idea that it's an $1800 device, being treated more like a $200 Galaxy A device, as far as updates and features being added, I am saddened. Hopefully, they'll listen to the users and bring those things over. I didn't mean for my comment to turn into a rant, but that says just how much I am loving my OnePlus 12 and other Android devices. It's great to have so many options. Nothing Phone 2a is headed my way to add another company to my perspective.

But the newer more powerful oneplus 12 100 watt charger (in Europe) doesn't trigger the high power for her computer. Oneplus one, 3t, 6, 8t, then Pixel 7. I thought I was through with Oneplus, but using my 8t as an extra device, I kept on experiencing the wonderful battery charging capabilities of oneplus. (It started at 3t) The pixel never could compete- although putting pixel on super battery saving mode was an eye opener. Google created a nice way to use that mode and I always leave it in that mode now. At any time you can instantly whitelist an app. It is almost like how the Robin (remember that phone?) The Robin would uninstall unused apps to save space and grey them out on the desktop. That's what the Pixel does but it greys them out to disable them and their battery/data useage. OnePlus forces you to uninstall an app to add a new app (one of six in the super battery saver mode). That is less elegant than the pixel super battery saver mode. I could get 8 to ten hours of screen on time on my pixel. I almost feel that the pixel was MEANT to be run in this mode. Now I bought the OnePlus 12 and get ten to 14 hours SOT in Normal mode and at ANY time can boost the battery with the super vook. But keep in mind, there is a setting to get the 12 to go to 100 watts in Europe. It doesn't do it by default. I'll go find the setting and add it in a comment. Now, off to watch the video. See how much I'll learn about the 8 pro.

Okay I've been watching tech reviews for like 7 or so years now and the way you summarized these 2 phones is the best thing ever like holy moly. The Pixel is the better phone and Oneplus is the better computer. Like it makes so much sense as to why people could gravitate towards pixel, it's just easy and turn your brain off kind of thing. But still, a thousand bucks is a thousand bucks and as an Asian, I want my money's worth so yeah Oneplus did a soaring comeback this year. BTW, last year's Pixel 7 was one of the greatest phones like it was so cheap but still got a flagship camera and a flagship-esque chipset, Google really made a mistake by raising the prices for the Pixel 8. Google THRIVES in the lower midrange to upper midrange market. Look at all the Pixel "a" phones and how well the Pixel 6 and 7 sold.

The pixel isn’t is supported in my country, so it’s a no brained to go with the OP12. And honestly, even if the pixel was supported, I’d still have bought the OP12. It just suits my requirements better, and that’s what we need from a phone right…. A device that suits our requirements.

I think Juan that op has come a long way and tbh price vs. features and speed I would have to choose op .but !!! Google also makes a great phone ,just getting over priced for what you get.

I love my OnePlus 12, but I despise how narrow it is. Especially when watching UKposts where my videos are too small with those massive black bars on the side. Phones need to stop being in that 20:9 aspect ratio, it's just bad. Samsung got it right with the 18.5:9. It's the perfect width for a phone. I will not be buying another OnePlus if they keep this bad aspect ratio.

Lol, I'm basically an old man now. I dotnt trust anyone else with my files such as my music, my pictures, my documents and so forth. With that being said, I'd prefer the OnePlus as long as it doesnt still kill apps like crazy. The OnePlus is cheaper, faster and it gives me video out capabilities?! Yeah, I'd sign up for that over the Pixel any day. The only thing I like about the Pixel is call screening and the long-term support. I had 2 Pixels before and HATED them because of the huge hardware problems such as poor signal and constant overheating while doing mundane tasks. The 7a embarassed me in front of my iPhone toting girlfriend when it just overheated everytime she saw it. It ceased to be funny after a while and she just started to feel bad for me. The Pixel 6 embarassed me in front of my mom when it was busy having and giving migranes by not being able to find a GPS signal and refusing to navigate anywhere. We pulled out her Pixel 4a 5G and were able to navigate just fine. The OnePlus 10t I had just had minor annoyances like killing apps too easily. I should have never given it up for a Pixel. REGRET.

can anyone help me out here? I need a second phone so I am looking for something very small and not expensive, it will be used mainly for a couple work apps and nothing more but everything I see on the markets are literal monsters with screens over 6'' .... can anyone suggest a good cheap small phone? for it to be future proof would be great too since I'll probably keep it indefinitely

Moto Edge g54 12gb Ram and 256gb storage is worth a look for a secondary phone. Excellent performance for a low price, great battery and some of the best features in their segment. I have this phone and the OP12. Best phones I purchased in recent years!

In the OnePlus settings, turn on the setting called Smart Rapid Charging to get 100 watt charging in Europe. (It's in the battery settings). By default, the phone avoids using the full 100 watt speed unless that is turned on. And yes, charging speed is what kills comparing this type of Chinese phone with Pixel, Samsung and Apple. There. Is. No. Comparison.

It seems that OnePlus has improved so much against Pixel. I remember I bought OnePlus 7T with its huge red box. However I sold it as soon as Pixel 5 arrived. OnePlus had the better hardware specs at the time, but for me the overall software's user experience of Pixel was more valuable.

I have the P8P and the Oppo find x7 ultra that is a vitaminized Oneplus and I prefer the P8P, even if the processor is not as good as the snapdragon, the UI feels smother, the pixel never fails with a photo and the magic editor is way better. The battery management of the snapdragon is simply awesome but the pixel last the day with no problems

OnePlus 12 has several advantages over the Google Pixel 8: * Larger, higher resolution display with a faster refresh rate * More powerful processor * Faster charging * Telephoto zoom lens If these features are important to you, then the OnePlus 12 is the better choice. However, the Pixel 8 has a better camera and a more water-resistant design.
