I have mixed feelings about this intro, because watching it for the first time it looks like random bullshit flying on the screen but after playing the game you realize the mountain load of symbolism and start crying like persona plz why do you do this to me

There's something in Persona 3 that appeals to me in a different way than Persona 4 or Persona 5. P4 is still my favorite, but P3 has some sort of... i dunno, Evangelion-esque feel which many anime don't have today. When subtlety was so subtle, that stories are incomprehensible when you see them for the first time, which creates a fantastic sense of mystery. The less comprehensible story is, the more mysterious it is, like a riddle or a tomb filled with puzzles.

I remember how madly in love I was with this game. The last third was depressing as hell, but the overall game play, battle system and characters made it all worth fighting for.

I think there idea with this opening was "Lets throw in a bunch of shapes that turn into other shapes/lines and then some confusing imagery nobody will understand until their 30th time watching it!"

My first RPG for the PS2... Such good memories. I loved the intro back then, it was so different. So mysterious. I never skipped it. Only problem was, I was too young to understand the psychological concepts, demons and ideologies. However, I don't regret playing it. It was AWESOME!

As a persona fan I hate when people start hating on others for saying why they like a certain persona game more than others. You can argue with your own opinion but insulting them isn't right. I thought the persona fan base was better than this.

I like the other Persona openings a lot, but this one will always just hit different. It encapsulates the feel of the game and its themes so well. One of the best game OPs ever imo.

I love how its funky in the beginning and then at 1:05 it suddenly shifts to sounding like something out of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I can’t be the only one who noticed this, but the part at 1:26 seems to be at least somewhat reflectant of the original tale of Orpheus in mythology, where he rescued his wife Eurydice from the underworld, and was permitted to leave on the condition that he does not look back once while ascending out of the underworld. I think it has a little credence to it considering he’s climbing a grand staircase without looking back, Aigis happens to be in the scene, and the fact that protag’s first persona is Orpheus.

My favorite game of all time. The greatest story ever told. I seriously have to stop myself from crying just listening to it now.

I got into the Persona series with 5 per my girlfriends recommendation. LOVED IT! ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! Heard about Persona 3 and decided to look up the intro. Needless to say I just bought this game since I still have my PS2 and it’s arriving tomorrow! Can’t fucking wait! Such an awesome intro!

this game oddly hit me hard in the feels as a kid and this opening creeped me out the word "memento mori" and its meaning always gave me chills as a kid I just thought of it as a creepy word, but now grown up it made me think of it in a different way. everything and everyone dies at some point, so you just gotta do your best to make the most of it gotta live with no regrets outdated word but.. yolo you know

This video of THE LEGENDARY Persona 3 OP came out about 3 weeks after my 17th Birthday in late Summer 2012, and now a full decade later in my late 20's, when it looking like Life is stressful and tricky, I STILL find myself coming back to this for comfort and assurance. Persona Forever!!!

This opening was so evocative for me as a youngin'. Coming off of the 2d experience we started with. Shooting themselves in the head?! That's crazy!

My favorite part about this opening is that in true tragic storytelling fashion, it lets you know that the end result of the game will be that you will die, and no matter what happens nothing can change that.

The last Persona game where the stakes were raised. Where main characters could actually 'die'

My favorite part about this intro is at 1:13. It’s a freakishly good way to foreshadow events in the game. You can see Orpheus rising first, and that symbolizes how, in the first part of the game, all you think about are your personas, Tartarus, and growing stronger. But as the plot progresses, and as the history of SEES and the dark hour comes into mind, shadows and the end of the game comes into your mind, and your dread grows about those factors. It doesn’t help that terror about the literal end of the world grows and eventually climaxes in the boss fight, and this is represented by how the shadows in the opening grow and consume your screen entirely. By the end, your state of mind is entirely focused on the plot, and your thought process has none of the wonder you started with. It’s instead been replaced with sheer grit and determination.

Damn. I really wish I could play this masterpiece for the first time again. One of the greatest games of all time and also one of my favorite fictional stories every written. I will always love Persona 3🖤and the rest of the series too

Playing this game really help me out with my depression over my ex for months. I will always love the persona series.

I never got the whole "This intro spoils the plot" mentality. Persona 3's main theme is about death. The game constantly reminds you about that. Having an intro that only says "You will die" in every way it can it's not spoiling, it's more-so foreshadowing than anything else. It's only when you beat the game and see this intro again that you say "Oh, shit."
