Outlast was never particularly good with the "you're not a fighter" concept. When you see, for example, amnesia monsters, you don't even think about fighting that shit back, but outlast not only usually throws at you some whimpy, half-starved dipshits with sticks, it itself forgets to depict a character as a whimpy defenseless bitch most of the time, making that gameplay part feel like "we just dragged it in, because that's how we heard horrors do a horror on you". Miles from the previous part himeslf proved numerous times that he's capable of outwrestling a regular psycho dipshit.

To be far, patients from an insane asylum are crazy strong and will be poised in killing you in an instant with no hesitation because they're, well, crazy. Give them a weapon, and thats basically a chimp with a machine gun. The first game made sense really; you're a journalist, not a cop so you wouldn't really have the strength nor the combat experience to defend yourself at all, aside from pushing away the odd schizophrenic. The asylum you're in is filled with psychopaths, sociopaths, all sorts of legitimately crazy people that will tear your eyeballs inside out and then probably fuck it just from you looking at them funny. If Miles could defend himself, so could the fuckin guards, but they didn't fare so well did they? Its better than the second game in the sense that crazy people would probably be more dangerous than brainwashed people, but at least having humans as the aggressors in horror games is a lot more interesting than the usual monster.

Craftedminer well. Literally wrong there. He did have the strength of pushing a fairly beefy psycho off a balcony, as well as being able to just outwrestle Tragger out of an elevator. That means he might not be a champ, but he is physically capable of ordinary Joe's fisticuffs. He's not strong enough to go full Doom marine and go rip Walker's throat out (due to his size, Walker is one of the few, who don't make you doubt the "you can't fight them" part), but he's not a complete bitch either. That's where they failed in showing how defenseless Miles actually is. All the stuff you say about "dangerous psyhos" doesn't matter either. He's already in there, interracting with such said psychos. When you run for your life from someone trying to "skullfuck you for looking at them funny", getting buttpunched every once in a while, you could as well hit them back, since there's plenty of cases in the game Miles actually had that chance. It didn't work out for the guards, because Walker showed you exactly why, when he ripped off one's head. As i said before, I do not suggest going full hack'n'slash, but they really didn't make it convincing enough to feel that Miles was "just a jurnalist" enough that he couldn't fight back literally anyone, and didn't do justice to this aspect of gameplay. They did a good enough job in the second part, since our hero can barely push away a diseased, muscle-rotten half dead hillbilly, but the first one failed. It seemed like if theu were going to give Miles at least some physical capabilities in those cutscenes, a silent hill 2 aproach would be more fitting, giving the hero an ability to fight, but make it sluggish, annoying, hard and uncomfortable enough for us to realize we're better off just avoiding conflict. Kinda like recent Resident Evil did with "fatherly figure of the family" encounters. Or the good old first Penumbra, that one was a pain in the ass in termw of fighting.

First one (and DLC) was better because it had better heroes, better villains and better plot. Outlast 2 was a bit dumb. The highlight is when Walrider destroys the radio towers.

He is a voice actor, that is what they do the feeling forced and uninterested you had was because of the script, probably the director in the studio told him to read it with such tone of voice to convey the game's cliche
