Being able to build your own prison is crazy

It's impossible that such an established drug lord didn't know his call would trace him. He was alone with hus bodyguard on that day. There is no chance he didn't know he will be killed if he made a phone call. Still he did which means he himself planned his end.

I remember seeing this on the news, his mom was laughing thinking they didn't get him, but his bodyguard only. Nope. He got what was coming to him. Farmers still occasionally find 45 gallon drums full of cash buried on their land and suddenly retire. So regardless if they seized his assets, he still had more than he needed for him and his family's lives. Millions are still out there.

It does make perfect sense. A man like Escobar would not want to risk being killed by his enemies, as this would tarnish his reputation and history would paint him as the loser. And the police would much prefer to take him alive and parade him around, as that would give them far more satisfaction than killing him. He would end it on his own terms before they got the chance so that he could deny them the satisfaction. My best guess is that he probably took a few hits in the initial exchange of gunfire when they breached the door, then once he realized his wounds had made it impossible to escape he made the final decision. And because history is written by the ones who are still alive when the dust settles, the Colombian police found the wound in his ear and in a bid to preserve their ego, told the press that one of their own fired the last shot. Of course they'd want people to think they won a gunfight against the most powerful man on their continent, if people knew the truth then the legend of Escobar would have been made far more influential than it was and it would have certainly been a significant embarrassment for the police.

Very heartless he call his son and was concerned about his family but forgot that the innocent people he killed had families too

It doesn’t matter if Pablo committed suicide or was killed by the dozens of armed Colombian soldiers wanting revenge for his atrocities. He was going to die on the rooftop regardless.

I just came from Medellin, Colombia yesterday, and after multiples tours with colombian people, everybody claims, and even government dictates that Escobar killed himself, nobody killed him. The general of police was arrested on the 90's and recently is out of jail, because he altered the scene of crime hiding the gun Pablo used to shot himself behind the ear.

So much emotional support for a criminal in the comments section. Then we wonder why society has criminals.

It's pretty poetic to see Pablo chose to save his family over his personal ambition when he was cornered just like all of his victims when they were cornered by him with same dilemma.
