Pakistani Police Bust Me... Eating Fish! (A Warning for Tourists)

Can't a man just vlog and eat fish in peace in Pakistan? While eating in the Sikh holy city of Nankana Sahib, an unidentified security service agent finds me in a restaurant and reports me to the local Police station. Then a Punjab police officer sits next to me and forces me to ride back to my hotel with him.
According to that Punjab police officer, the protection of foreign tourists is their responsibility. However, I don't think there's any rule like that in Nankana Sahib. The only places that require you to travel with a security guard in Pakistan are, as far as I know, southern Punjab (below Multan) and Balochistan.
If you're going to Nankana Sahib, read my travel guide blog.karlrock.com/nankana-sah....

Speaking of aging, and I swear to God I'm not making this up, just pointing it out, but Karl you might think of another line of work despite the fact I love virtually every video you've made. Not an insult, the same thing happened to me working a night shift for 2yrs but man you've aged a LOT in just 6-12 months. well, any flap, especially an attacked foreign visitor, presumably makes the local police look bad, their area unsafe, etc. seems to me they were just worried about their job performance and couldnt care less what he's there to do. rushed him to finish eating before he's even had a bite, when he emphatically stressed to them he did not desire any security. probably his whole trip was just hanging around this place and that, this is a major upset... it is them valuing their own job performance over someone else's freedom, even over their own area's tourism value, as this kind of thing obviously is unwelcomed and can ruin a trip

Off all the encounters I had with the police here, they've been really respectful and only seen troubling them if there's a sign of malice. In Pakistan, the general rule is, Police will consider you guilty, not even giving you the chance to prove your innocence. A strange man sits at your table and asks if you are staying at a nearby hotel, asks what you are doing next (walking home alone) etc, asks you to get in their car so they can take you home. Even mentions that you need a security guard before identifying themselves. I'm surprised he even entered the vehicle, the officer making him go on a tour before he takes him to his destination, he never asked for a tour and doesn't know the man driving - it's an F grade for the officer. Next time you take a taxi Joseph and want to go home, how will you feel when the driver asserts you must see the city so he'll pause the clock and starts driving you elsewhere? Alarm bells right? If anything he was too open and trusting.

It’s like when the locals try to protect visitors, the visitors don’t want their ‘protection’, but when they get into trouble they would be the first to blame the locals and the authorities for not protecting them. I’m not gaslighting him, I’m just sharing a similar case in my country where locals tried to help, but the visitors naively said it’s a safe country, sadly things end up differently.

You didn't mention if the officer asked for a tip when you got back, but channel tone wise it seems like you would have mentioned it if he did. If he did that for free with no expectation of a tip then not only is a good cop but a good human being. Compare this to almost ALL of your videos highlighting scammers where at the very least they want something, and when you say no to X they offer Y and then Z and then Q who knows, and the acting ability slowly falls apart. Looks like a lot of people in the comments didn't watch to the end. Perfectly understandable to be suspicious of strangers.

as a pakistani i'd like to say that im glad that a policeman randomly saw you and because of him today this video is not much worst then it is right now, i mean i understand that every vloger want a pure local experience but some places are actually "not safe" for real bruh.

True. But in unsafe corrupt places, sometimes the police or govt officials are also the ones you need to watch out for. Simply following any individual claiming to be “police” can also be naive. Which may be why he had his guard up with the man claiming to be protecting him and ultimately asked to see his official credentials before jumping into a car with him

I get that he is experienced but man the way he talked to the policeman would make me think that he needed security as well lol

It is so good of him to extend his services beyond the call of duty considering how some places in south Asia can be unsafe for tourists.

That officer was really looking out for your safety… he probably knew something you didnt and was not gonna let you get in danger on his watch… respect for that cop

he wasn't even wearing a uniform. He should be free to take a risk if he so chooses.
