Cameron basically pieced his film together from things he saw in other films. Not just from the 1958 A Night to Remember but also from the 1943 and 1953 Titanic's, 1979 SOS Titanic and 1980's Raise the Titanic. It's obvious Cameron didn't bother to think of an orginal idea himself.

Technically Gone With The Wind is still the most successful film of all time, adjusted for inflation of course. _Titanic_ is a testament to the very best of film making. Dedication, ingenuity, attention to detail. Cameron knows how to effortlessly blend CGI and practical effects. And it's why even though it was made in the 90s, it'll hold even a hundred years from now...long after the _RMS Titanic_ herself is nothing but a pile of rust at the bottom of the Atlantic. It's absolutely in my top 3 favorite films of all time. I always felt so bad for Thomas Andrews. He must've had so much guilt for something that wasn't his fault. Of all the real people in the film, he was the one they got spot on in terms of personality. He really was the type to simply say "hello." To Jack Dawson, despite the two being in different classes.

@@KillYourTV86 They really don't. You can be impressed with the CGI for Davy Jones, and Thanos all day long. But you know what you're seeing isn't there. Films back in the day had to use what they had on deck and CGI helped enhance what was man made. Cameron built TO SCALE models of the ship. And broke the ship in two. You can't just replicate something like that in CGI. With films like Transformers, the CGI is definitely very impressive, but again, you know the Autobots and Decepticons aren't there. It's why a scene like the semi truck in The Dark Knight will always be better looking than anything from Quantumania or Love and Thunder. Even with the T-Rex scene in Jurassic Park, that was a stunning blend of BOTH practical effects and CGI. And the animal looks REAL; like my god the pupil contracted and dilated. That's dedication to bringing it to life. Then we get the Raptor mix animal and it just kind of falls apart.

Not a masterpiece writing wise. It owes itself to other Titanic films to other writers. Cameron just culled things (shots, bits of dialogue, bits of plot, revisioned versions of characters) from previous Titanic versions (1943 and 1953 Titanic's, 1979 SOS Titanic, 1958 A Night to Remember, Raise the Titanic 1980). @@Garsons-oq4lh some of the dialogue may be a little corny but there are some great and memorable lines in the film as well... the script on the other hand was not an easy script to write which Cameron does not get enough credit for, the amount of research he did and the amount of books he read before going into it... and how he structured it with all character for the first 2 hours and then all disaster for the remaining hour... Jack & Rose introduced us to what life was like on Titanic for those few days prior to it striking the iceberg... that way... we not only fell in love with them, but also the ship itself and came to appreciate the ship which made it so we could appreciate the sinking that much more and made it that much more impactful....

My best friend and I met in 1997. I was 6 years old and she was 8. We were on the bus together and got off at the same stop and we both had Leonardo Dicaprio books. Every year, even as we grew into our teens and then into our 20s we would watch Titanic at least twice a year together. We knew everything about Titanic. She committed suicide when she was 27 years old, in 2016. When I watched this, I was so sad that she couldn't see this. She would have absolutely loved seeing all of this footage. I don't really have anyone I can nerd over Titanic about, and it's funny because I remember being in 2nd grade and a teacher giving me the biggest book I had ever seen in my life that had every little tidbit about the ship inside of it. I was so obsessed and so was she. I really miss her. But thank you for showing us all of this in an era where everything is CGI now. For someone who is 32, I assumed that more of this movie was done in CGI. I truly did not understand the scale of the sets when I was a kid. The movie is becoming dated though. Most people focus on the Jack and Rose thing, but when you really look at it you can't deny Cameron's deep passion and romanticism for Titanic herself. There's so many tiny details in there which if you blink you'd miss. Even one of the lifeboats being lowered on top of another, I was astounded to recognise the guy cutting the ropes was a leading fireman from the boiler room and that scene was recreated as he himself and other survivors had testified. Thomas Andrews pride in his astounding accomplishment. A vessel practically unsinkable in every foreseeable circumstance, and his utter dread when he realised his titan's throat had been slit ear to ear. No matter what they did or could do, his ship was going down that night.

@@Garsons-oq4lhThe writing is fine. It’s simple…but not stupid. It’s actually how people talk unlike Sorkin’s material. Sorkin is a genius of his own kind, but his dialogue is not actually how people talk IRL. And just because something doesn’t receive a shit ton of awards or even get nominated doesn’t mean the thing is bad. Plenty of great pieces of art didn’t get anything but they’re still great.

this is actually a very "dangerous" statement to say online, because there are always these people who look down upon Titanic and will insist that Aliens, Terminator, and Abyss, and True Lies as the real and far superior James Cameron movies 😂 theres always this hesitant to sincerely praise Titanic. but Titanic is by far Cameron's most iconic to the majority of people on earth...

@@jenniferhiemstra5228 Cameron basically pieced his film together from bits he saw in other Titanic films (1943 and 1953 Titanic, 1958 A Night to Remember, 1979 SOS Titanic and 1980's Raise the Titanic as well. Obvious Cameron didn’t work hard to think of an orginal idea for his Titanic.

@@Garsons-oq4lhWe get it! No need to rub it in our faces. Of course I am genuinely happy that the film's costume designer Deborah Lynn Scott won an Oscar for Best Costume Design as she had such a meticulous attention to detail; such as the red dinner dress Rose wore when she was planning on jumping off the stern of the ship.

I feel like humanity forgets just how transcendent and how “larger than the sum of its parts” this film is. Think about it…has any single film…single as in not part of a series, done what this film did? The zeitgeist this film created has never been matched. Maybe before it’s day but certainly not after. Barbie seems to be on its way, but only time will tell if that will be the case.

Titanic was the last time Hollywood made a proper film. It's an epic, timeless, classic Hollywood masterpiece, and a testament to real filmmaking. But the best thing about this 4K transfer of Titanic is that all those details that James Cameron and Jon Landau put into the film, which certainly weren’t visible in the 1997 releases, but perhaps maybe not even in the 2012 Blu-Ray - the ornate painting and detailed carving on the staircase, the decay of Rose’s butterfly comb, the slight rust and imperfection on the hull of Titanic - is all there in incredible quality and details, and it makes the 4K version actually breathtaking. And I don’t mean that in just a slap-in-some-hyperbole-way. I actually mean that my jaw was agape during some scenes. The flying scene is simply magnificent, I mean, an actual masterpiece - not the film, just that one scene - a timeless work of art.
@LerockJohn

This is an absolutely insane production! James Cameron is simply the only filmmaker that could have pull this off! Just the 90 degrees scene itself is nothing but beautiful and scary and elaborate and dare I say safe? What an experience everybody involved must have gone through! WoW!!!

Even more so for Jon Landau's wife and son. When the cable broke and the set was stuck in position, I can't imagine the tongue lashing Jon's wife gave him for leaving her and their son (who was eight years old no less) dangling in the air like that.

I know the scenes by heart and it's amazing to see it from the perspective of the filming, the making of, and if it's with commentary from James Cameron, Kate and Leo it's perfect. I really hope this comment gets to someone who can do this because I NEED more videos and curiosities from the filming.

Say what you like about directors, actors, stories, sound, music, lighting, writing, etc., but some films--especially Cameron's--have hearts and souls which last forever. I also believe that "The Abyss" is another one with such spirit. Yes... it nearly destroyed some of the cast and crew (especially Mastrantonio--poor thing)... but in the end, the storytelling and performances were LEGENDARY.

My soulmate and I went to see Titanic in 4K 3D last February. It was our first time seeing it on the big screen. And let me tell you…it was like watching it for the first time. Everything looked amazing and it truly came to life right in front of us. Watching Titanic with a big audience only amplified the emotional impact. Lots of us cried together during so many scenes, complete strangers. James Horner’s gorgeous soundtrack sounded amazing on the surround speakers. So many people including us stayed for the end credits ❤ The most unforgettable, surreal movie theater experience we’ll ever have! 🥲👏🏼

Wow I watched Titanic on Film 4 On Christmas day, love all this behind the scenes footage. It really is one of the best films, you can't deny the level of effort and detail that went into it. Is it me or do films not really have the same standard anymore? I miss the days of lavish, practical sets.. too much CG now. Hope they can strike a balance, they really do stand the test of time
