Parents of School Shooter Ethan Crumbley Sentenced, Failed to Get Son Treatment & Not Securing Gun

21 день томуAs James and #JenniferCrumbley awaited sentencing for their conviction for involuntary manslaughter, both sought to avoid jail.
Their son #EthanCrumbley is serving life in prison for the school rampage where four were killed and seven others were injured. The gun used was given to the teen as a birthday present by his parents. James, convicted of involuntary manslaughter, asked the judge for "time served" and Jennifer asked the judge to let her serve her time on house arrest in a guest house at her attorney's home.
Oakland County Prosecutor Marc Keast has recommended 10-to-15-year jail sentences for both Jennifer and her husband, James. While James was in jail, damning phone conversations surfaced in which Crumbley had allegedly threatened Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.
In a call from October 9, 2023, five months before the trial, Crumbley says, “Yeah, Karen McDonald, you’re going down. … Go ahead, record this call. Send it to Karen McDonald. Tell her how #JamesCrumbley is going to f------ take her down."
In a call on December 23, 2023, Crumbley says “There will be retribution, believe me." The threats were bad enough that Crumbley's jail communication privileges were revoked during his trial. Neither received the sentence they asked for.

School is liable as well. We send our children to school , knowing that, hoping and expecting that staff is doing their jobs in providing what is outlined in what we all know. Knowledge, experience in social behavior, safety, discipline, etc. They need to be held accountable as well.

We have a generation and a half of adults that never grew up emotionally. They are stunted children in adult bodies having children they can not relate to nor offer any parenting skills. I work in a busy ER and so many 'single mom's with 5+ babies and pregnant by god knows who in tow behind them. The cycle continues. Scant childhood nurturing results in adults that can barely nurture a house plant let alone a child.

Context means everything. The parents here committed specific actions/inactions that amounted to gross negligence. Simply being a parent of a gang member who commits a murder is not nearly enough to warrant charges.

The parents 100% failed this kid who was screaming out for help... however the SCHOOL failed this kid along with EVERY HUMAN BEING in that school...the school knew this kid had serious mental health issues, they did NOTHING EITHER to protect every human in that school, even knowing his backpack was much heavier than should have been and NO ONE UNZIPPED THAT BAG...we can't just pick and choose who to blame -THEY ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE 🤬

In my 28 years of teaching, I found 2 notebooks students had left on tables that had Hit Lists of school faculty and students! Two!! How many more are out there?! Each time, I immediately rushed them to administration who took immediate action. So, why did the students leave them on the tables? Were they asking for help hoping someone would open them and read what was inside and do something? We have to take these things seriously and parents who know that their kids are showing signs of aggression like this HAVE to do something and not ignore it! (One poor teacher on one of the hit lists came to me later visibly shaken and just wondered why that student had her on the hit list, because they got along so well in class. It is just terrible to work in an environment where you have to fear being murdered by your students!)

My heart go out to eat and one of these family members that lost a child. My heart goes out to all these children’s that heard the shots rang. Mr. and Mrs. crumble deserve to be in jail. So does the school because of Mr. and Mrs. Crumley didn’t do anything about their son and what he wrote they should’ve had him baker acted that is, an oath to school takes. All the adults failed these children not just the Crumley, but all the adults. My prayers go out to all the victims families and all the victims who have survived this shooting.❤️🙏🙏🙏❤️

Well, the issue is that in the trial, when she was on the stand she said even looking back she still wouldn't have done anything different. There's a way to express that you wish you had made some different decisions without admitting to being guilty of the crime. You ask what about the "people" (assuming you mean the parents) of all the other school shooters? Well, which parents of those other school shooters went out and bought the murder weapon just days before the murder? Which of those parents then didn't bother to secure the weapon? Which of those parents were shown a disturbing drawing similar to what these parents saw, and then didn't bother checking their child's backpack? Context means everything. Why would anyone just lump the parents of all school shooters together? That isn't what this is about. These parents did (and didn't do) very specific things that led to their charges.

As far as the cry for help in his notebook- it was kept in his locker. What parents go to the school and goes through their kids lockers, none. What school personnel go through the kids lockers, none Until something happens. I only watched the moms trial and heard the school failed to keep the parents informed. As far as him getting the gun, this kid isnt a 5 yr old. He lived in that house everyday. No matter where the key is hidden, he would eventually found it if he looked hard enough. The parents didnt place the gun in his hand and tell him to go use it at school. They didnt make the plan to do it, he did all, on his own. I dont feel they should have been charged to that extent. Nor have I seen any cases since that the parents were charged for what their kids do.
