George never understood how important his voice, music, - indeed, his presence - was to those of us who got him. Sure I loved the Beatles. Yes John Lennon. But he was the secret. He was that harmony between Paul's incredible range and John's powerful voice. He was always 'the man' to me. I play guitar, and have a small reputation as an aggressive hard rock/punk guy. But George was always my hero. He's been gone (it'll be) 22 years this coming November. That's how long my heart's been broken by his passing. I hope he's still hangin 'round when I get there.

Another lousy birthday, but worse, it was announced on early morning TV news that George Harrison died. I went into a BR stall and cried. Big tough guy who was drafted and did a tour as a Army Ranger (LRRP). So, I said, screw my trip and fly off to visit my favorite person on earth. Not my loving wife of 30 years or my mom of 50 years, who had her hands full with me growing up, but to see my grandmother. She lit up like a harvest moon seeing me. It was the summer of 1970 when this song came out in the States. I was living in Berkeley CA, better known as Beserk-ly back then. We would gather on our flat rooftop four stories up with a killer view of San Francisco beyond and crank out Here Comes The Sun. Ah, thank you George for your genius. Peace on the world, please.
@charlie-obrien3 роки тому
I love this performance and I have always believed that they chose which one of the other's song that would be played. Paul choosing Here Come the Sun and George picking Homeward Bound. I also love the little guitar flourishes that George adds to Paul's very somber and moving tune.

one of my favorite performances of all time; I remember seeing this on the original SNL broadcast; 2 of the best harmony singers ever, they sound great together; I love how they obviously respect each other’s song; I love the way Paul’s unique fingerpicking compliments Here Comes The Sun & George’s classy reminder to all that he was The Beatles lead guitarist there at the end of Homeward Bound

I remember watching this on TV when it aired for the very first time "Live", and thinking it was the greatest musical moment in TV history, save for The Beatles debut itself on Ed Sullivan. Now 44 years later, I realize that I was correct.

Wow, how can someone not be into the Beatles? they created so much incredible music! 50 years from now, they will be looked at the way many people look at artists like Beethoven, Bach, Brahms & those artists from many years ago! Thank You John, Paul & George for the amazing music you wrote as the Beatles & after the Beatles!
@stickman17423 роки тому
Yes this performance shows how great George's voice can be. It would've been nice if this was incorporated more into the Beatle's catalogue. With Lennon and McCartney, I can see why George was overlooked, but their catalogue would have been improved if they exploited George's abilities more.

John Michael The film is kinda blurry, so I was going more by the sound. Oh well, at least glasses can help my vision. There’s probably nothing that can be done about you being a rude person.
@johnmichael15944 роки тому
Jenny & Craig - you think that was rude? SMH. another PC snowflake heard from. at worst, my comment was MILDLY sarcastic. here's a tip: if you're too fragile to handle being called out for making an idiotic statement on a public forum, STOP MAKING THEM. what would you have us all do? permit FALSE statements to continue to circulate just because some shrinking violet might wither under scrutiny? alas, there's probably nothing that can be done about you being a stupid libtard.
@michaelradzicki20043 роки тому
The Beatles get together to record the songs for Abbey Road. George says "I got this song called Here Comes The Sun". Rest of the band "You got anything else?" George "I have a song called Something." Yeah, but he couldn't write songs. On arguably the best rock record every recorded, George has the two best songs on it.

@JohnCee7543 роки тому
He really hit the ball out of the park in the 9th inning, didn't he? George seemed to gain strength on each Beatles record, until he proved once and for all that The Beatles had three world-class songwriters.
@davidgabriel19353 роки тому
Paul said that it was clear to him and John that George was peaking during those last couple of years of the bands existence. He denied that he could have achieved greatness without John George and Ringo, and that he was incredibly lucky. The interviewer was incredulous. Paul replied, "how many times do four guys like that get together and you are one of them?" Well, the answer is one time.
@hatesitrick3 роки тому
check their spotify plays - Here Comes the Sun is the most played, with over 200 MILLION plays MORE than all the other songs, sitting at 600,000 plays. Come Together is the second highest, sitting at 385 Million approx. Suck on that Lennon.

@keriford543 роки тому
Often when two greats come together they are less than the sum of the parts, but this really works, they sound wonderful together. It just works.Also interesting to think how George seems like such a good collaborator, he was the heart of the Travelling Wilburys and I think the Beatles really needed him, he didn't want the spotlight he just helped make it all work.
@shawzy6203 роки тому
I think the reason is they respect the songs and their egos take second place to the music. So often the individual’s pride take centre stage and the music takes a back seat - not so here - the music is front and centre!

Harrison’s solo work is the only of the Beatles to approach Beatles quality harmonies IMO. His role was vastly underrated he was a true genius of pop harmony
