When you first run NetSpot, you'll see two modes available: Discover and Survey.
The Discover mode, which is available in the free version of the app, shows you all the WiFi networks around and their details like signal level, band, channel, security type, etc. If there is a WiFi channel overlap issue, you can see it by viewing the details for a network from the list.
WiFi site surveys are easy to perform as well. Just switch to the Survey mode, give your project a name, upload your area map, and start scanning. To get more accurate results, walk from one corner and follow a zig-zag path through the space you wish to scan to an opposite corner. Don't forget to click the point on the map that corresponds to where you are standing each time to take the measurements. Once you are done, just stop the survey process and check the generated WiFi heatmaps in NetSpot --they are at the bottom of the window.
