Max drives the car as fast as it can be driven. That’s what anyone who’s worked with him has said. His preference maybe for a looser rear because that’s objectively how the fastest cars are but he can drive pretty much anything on the limit. Most drivers including seb need a car they like to be spectacular. This is what makes Max a once in a generation talent
@likilikiki

@@abingdonboy That is why he is on the limit quicker than anyone straight out of the box and probably why his out laps are just from another planet. @@likilikiki yeah definitely that’s one of Max’s strengths that has been noted by his team and other drivers. Fernando was the greater driver during the 2010-2013 period. His car was 3rd fastest at best in that time, and arguably worse Lotus in 2012, and yet he took the title contention to the final race of the season twice. His performances were like Gilles Villeneuve in 1981, who won two races with a genuinely horrible car. Vettel certainly didn't choke during these 4 years and secured the title each year, which is something that not every driver could do, but he wasn't superior to Fernando at any point.

I'm sorry but Peter's analysis is quite pseudoscientific. He says Vettel needs a strong back-end, otherwise he would have a lot of understeer. What? A back-end that overpowers the front-end is the exact reason for understeer. Also, turning while still braking is called trail-braking and every driver does it. Some drivers prioritse entry more and some prioritse the exit more but the differences between the drivers in F1 is far smaller than people make it out to be.
@folkert2938
@folkert2938 Рік тому
I think he is referring to the fact that he needs a car who is naturally stable at the rear. You can make it rear stable with setup changes but it will create understeer.
@Stantube1000
@Stantube1000 Рік тому
@@folkert2938 What Peter said there is mostly total BS. Vettel needs the car with a stable rear axle on the entry, in the first phase of the braking/cornering phase. Of course what @98MTBiker said is true- all F1 driver trail brake, all without single exception. Vettel brakes extremely hard and late, when the rear moving under him he can't turn as early as needed and loses time. You can't find numerous video footages from his RB days showing that. Vettel can't deal with the car oversteery under braking/first phase of the corner. He hates understeery (in general) cars, he prefers cars with a loosy rear midcorner/2nd phase to get a faster rotation and straighten the car as fast as possible. Vettel is well-known as a master of rotation. He indeed rotates the car beautifully and extremely efficient with the throttle and steering in the 2nd phase to get a faster exit and win lap time on the straight. This is his style, this is why he is so fast and so good in the wet for example, and has always been from day 1 of his career. He humiliated Peter's fav Leclerc on the wet track basically every session. Because he natural V-style works a lot better in slippery, low grip condition

And Hamilton would give Button no chance, be 0.3 ahead of Rosberg, destroy replacement driver Bottas and teach Russell. At least that's the narrative of British pundits, not Windsor specifically. Vettel was simply doing a better job than Hamilton while the British were desperate for consolation after another German driver became the best ever. So they got mad at Vettel. So when Vettel drove 2 seconds a lap faster than Kimi at Monaco, it was team strategy that got him the win. Petty but toxic chauvinsim. The disrespect for foreign drivers and Germans especially is everywhere. It took 3 WDC 's before they started wondering whether his name was actually Vettle or Vettelle. Verstappen is not called Verschtappen either, but it sounds kind of foreign (German actually). This is not beyond the British to pronounce it right, the sounds of a correct pronounciation exist in English too, this is not about getting close to pronouncing sounds that are not in your own language, this is a disrespectful indifference. I actually stumbled on this video because I stopped watching Windsor, as he's only using his knowledge and insight in racing, that he obviously has, to make his sad, petty, toxic chauvinism a bit more interesting.

What Peter is explaining is the reason Lewis has complained so much about his car this year. To execute this said skill of braking you need a stable car, if the car is unstable then you cannot apply this technique because you are too busy concentrating on not being thrown off the track. Peter constantly has said that Lewis Max and Charles are the top 3 elite drivers in F1. This factor is one of the main reason George and Lewis are so close this year. Once Merc gets this sorted, then you will see Lewis, Max, and Charles battling it out at the front again. This is also why Perez cannot keep up with Max this year.

If his car did not break down in the last race in 2007 he would have could have been x9 World champion. Bear in mind he has beaten 3 world champions in the same car, all things being equal. I love Vettel and recognize his talent but he is not on Max level IMHO. I personally believe he surfers from the same issue Max does which is that they are both extremely strong when they have a platform tailored to their style but that advantage disappears drastically when that's not the case. In Vettel's case, he had the worse possible scenario in Daniel because Daniel exposed this is spades. Vettel had no choice but to try something new in another team if he wanted to save his career.

Nobody compare Max with Alonso or Lewis. There are plenty of videos on UKposts which compares Max and Vettel. But very hard to find something with Lewis & Alonso.

Just hearing Windsor's instant reaction to say Max is faster is quite strange. We're talking about a 13-time winner and 4-time champion in the process. That's the greatest statistical year ever considering the 9 wins in a row and Verstappen is clearly the faster driver this season. We all know had they fueled up Max's car he would have 16 and in Brazil they clearly got the setup wrong but they still were the fastest car on the grid. What a season. Man Cam you're really a Max fanboy, not surprised though around this time 2021 you were hype on him. My thing is ppl are jumping the gun, Max is a great driver in a great car, but he has 8 years driving in F1 and is only now going to win his first title fairly. He's fast now but has a lot to prove, we'll see if he maintains this. Cause at one point ppl thought, Kimi, Alonso, Seb, Button, Lewis, Dani were the next Schumi, only one of those drivers made it past his level of success in the sport. He is on a good track though. And I find it hard to compare Max to any driver now, because besides Lewis and Leclerc no other driver tries to race Max. If Merc fix their car or Ferrari start making themselves look like clowns the Max bubble could pop.

What does Max have to prove? He’s been a top driver for pretty much 10 years now, he didn’t just make it into F1 by accident. He was recognised as something very very special when he was in his early teens. He was great in TR and won his first race with RB then was the top driver (as ranked by team principles) for most of the last 5 years. Since mid-2018 he’s been the best driver in F1 but you think he’s only now proving himself? You haven’t been paying attention

Seb is a talented driver but doesn't have the nerves and concentration to push and make the big points when it is needed. That's why he lost against Lewis who is IMO still the best when it comes to make the big points and use the weakness of your opponents. Sebastian could have won the championship with Ferrari but he always struggled when Lewis closed the gap. And well, Max is on a different level than Seb. Max is on Lewis' level but younger.
@DenUitvreter
@DenUitvreter Рік тому
Verschtappen is on a different level from both. Vettel and Hamlton are on the same level roughly, but Vettel did a lot more with his teams and cars by being very good at crucial moments and become more one with the car over the season, especially because he doesn't want to be the best all round dirver, the one that is good with bad cars and then blames the car and the team. Let's not forget that Red Bull was not a top team when Vettel joined, he had won a race before Red Bull. He pulled absolutely everything out of that and more with 4 titles. Hamilton was the first driver in history to debut in the top team of that era and that moment. Then he proceeded to be in the best car for the longest time in the history of F1, Rosberg could have had 7 WDC's too if Hamilton hadn't been in the way.
