MAD in Madagascar - Climbing with Sean Villanueva & Siebe Vanhee

In August 2015, Siebe Vanhee and Sean Villanueva took off on an adventure in the Tsaranoro massif, in the south of the African island Madagascar. They spotted a major unclimbed line on Tsaranoro Atsimo Armed with a drill, skyhooks and thirst for exploration we tackled the face ground up. This was very different to other first ascents they had done, as they usually do not bring a power drill, and very rarely place a bolt. But these walls are so blank and deprived of cracks and other features to place natural protections. Going ground up into this unknown vertical ocean of granite was very exciting and gave them quite the challenge. This video shows their adventure.

I have visited Madagascar in 2014. One of my favorite country in the world. Lovely people, unique landscape and lots of endemic plants and animals.

but it's sad because lots of the plants and natural biodiversity is going extinct because of slash and burn agriculture. lots of big Korean companies are buying land to mass produce rice and Malagasy people also are contributing to the environment loss. Soon Madagascar will be just like a desert with no trees, it's sad :(

We are going to climb all 180 summits above 2000m in the state of Bavaria/Germany this year in July and August and we are going to film everything by ourselfes as well. Yet we don't know how to cover everything properly and do all summits safely but this was quite an inspiration! btw, Sean: I've seen your Film "Dodo's Delight" at the Reel Rock Film Tour and EOFT - I think it was maybe the best movie of the entire festival! Hey Loup, thanks a lot, buddy! 👍 We keep you updated: a new vlog will be online later that evening 😉 I gonna talk a little bit about the excitement of doing it and what's t We planned the routes independent of the official routes since we have to link many summits together. So we will try to take shortcuts as much as possible, i.e. abseiling from one summit to get to the path to the other summit, going over ridges between summits whereas most people don't link them but climb them spererately. I will go deeper into that in another vlog, thanks for the idea to cover that topic 🤘

those scenes were using motion cameras. they left them when setting then picked them up on the route. they don't record as good quality.
