Maybe someone among you will know : at 1:31 while he's singing "thes precious words keep me hanging on", Phil Collins points at the sky. In the original version, The Supremes sing "these precious words keepS me...", making a grammatical mistake if I'm right (I'm French). So maybe a, now deceased, friend of Phil Collins was annoyed by this mistake and was often telling him about that ? And Phil Collins is making a tribute/homage/salute to his late friend ?

I was afraid of the opposite : the original version could be not as good as this one. But I listened to the The Supremes' version, and I agree with you : I find it as good as this version, it was already very rhythmic and dancing. I love both versions.

But you guys must also mention that this song is just a cover, it's not him who delivered the song, just the vocals (which are great by the way). The original is by "The Supremes". Know there is are also great artists today who deliver covers of great songs. So if you speak about creativity you can't compare Phil to today's artist based on this cover. Also today there is much more music, and also good music out there, but you have to search for it, it doesn't automatically come to you via radio and tv because FAME nowadays comes with Image or Sex. And rappers can mumble or only say one word an be famous, as long as they know the right people, have the most gangsta attitude or look weird and extraordinary.

I was just listening to the Supremes version and remembered how fabulous Phil's version was and here I am. He's got that soul in his bones. He reminds me of a cross between Blake from American Idol and Jude Law.

This was my first Phil Collins song. Heard it on the radio, loved it, found this video, and that opened the door to a whole new world of music to me. Seeing him live in a month with Genesis and I am pumped!
