Interesting video and explained very well. Let’s hope somebody tests the rcd regularly! Have come across a good few that have sat there for years without being tripped, then don’t trip regardless if leakage, switch off and on and they work again 🤷♂️

This was very well explained thank you. You have brought to my attention that I need to brush up on the disconnection times variations with circuits/devices. Do you have a previous video that covers this topic? I feel it's too late in the day to dig out the big brown book lol.
@Mainly_Electrical8 місяців тому
Thankyou .. mmm 🤔 kind of videos all over saying disconnection times.. TN earthing arrangement .4 secs all final circuits rated up to 32 amps .. circuits over 32 amps and distribution circuits 5 secs .. TT earthing final circuits 32 amps or under .2 secs .. over 32 and distribution circuits 1 sec .. there you go .. 👍 got a video on max Zs .. picture of circuit breaker I think on thumbnail.. quite informative

Great example of engineering out the problem. Fantastic video mate, TT definitely the way to go in this scenario. 💪.

Could you explain how having a high volt drop on your neutral conductor would cause a voltage to occur on your CPC?

Hi is the 45A socket standard the same as the 45Along vertical ? Would I be able to swap them for a small square 35mm box with new socket ?
@maygarland61238 місяців тому
very nicely explained. Thank you

Thank you may 👍

If they were double pole rcbos, would you still of fitted the rcd main switch?
@ascot400021 годину тому
Probably a dumb question but why not leave the PME in place as well as using the steelwork as a TT point? PME is supposed to be multiple earth by design and the least resistive path is where the current would flow. Tying the 2 x CPCs together would remove any voltage-drop difference or are you a step or 2 ahead of me with potential fault conditions?
@peterigrenyi91764 місяці тому
Baring in mind the barn doesnt have 400A per phase supply would (it is protected by 63A protection) would local bond not be suficient in 10mm? Actually about to dig out the book to have a mooch through it.

Would you add a label on the steel “do not remove”?
@Mainly_Electrical8 місяців тому
Absolutely

Amazing content as always. I see I lot of 300ma RCD main switches used on farms etc. what would be the benefit of a 300 vs 100ma. Thanks 👍🏻
@Mainly_Electrical4 місяці тому
300 for protection against fire due to earth faults which obviously the 100 also affords .. Both can be used for fault protection on TT earthing .. 300 could be used on a larger installation for example where the 100 might go off due to earth leakage .. Zs needs to be below 167 on a 300 .. 500 ohms on a 100mA .. thank you for watching . Have a great Christmas 🤝

Thank you. Merry Christmas 👍🏻

Are there requirements to label a structural steel green-and-yellow, to say it's being used as a TT main earthing connection, not just for bonding?
@williamlowther70518 місяців тому
Good, would have left it pme and put a rod or the steel to earth as well personally,
@Mainly_Electrical8 місяців тому
That's as it was Willy .. bonding well undersized and store full of chemicals .. PME for me in there is a no no
@williamlowther70518 місяців тому
@@Mainly_Electrical pme with rod, same as what you did with out disconnecting the PEN conductor, so not PME

But the Ze was coming in at 0.30ohms and was within the maximum of 0.35ohms for max Ze for a tnc-s supply? Not sure why it was necessary as the fuse now being put at 50amps the other end has sorted it right?
@garylatto41918 місяців тому
Is the other end of the supply swa bonded ?. Great vid again mate
@Mainly_Electrical8 місяців тому
Yes gaz needs to be earthed mate .. exposed conductive part
@chrisjinks51978 місяців тому
Lots of sparks on UKposts, fuck me man such a breath of fresh air to hear a proper engineer. Great job, fully agree with what you did and when explained. Maybe we could make the bonding to the steel work more protected with some labeling or something else. Otherwise great job
@Mainly_Electrical8 місяців тому
👌
@Mike_58 місяців тому
Moving it to TT only means the installation is totally reliant on a single earth rod connection??
@Mainly_Electrical8 місяців тому
Structural steel mike its massive and now its clean
