πŸ“œ History of Policing London: The Bow Street Runners - Henry Fielding was a dangerous man... with a pen. He had a razor-sharp wit and created the page-turner novel, but that's not what we want to focus on here. Because Henry Fielding is also responsible for assembling London's first organized police force. The Bow Street Runners were inspired by Wilde's operation just... not corrupt. But Fielding quickly found that in London's justice system, corruption was the assumed default, not the exception. He certainly had his work cut out for him!

Fun Fact: Britain still has "Special Constables", police officers who are part time and expected to have other jobs within the community. This gives the Police more officers when they need them, but also ensures that a wider cross-section of the community is represented in law enforcement.
@dillongage
@dillongage 2 Ρ€ΠΎΠΊΠΈ Ρ‚ΠΎΠΌΡƒ
Most places have that. They're normally just called part time or reserves. Special Constables is a way cooler title though. My local sherrifs even have "volunteer" deputies. Usually it's just officers fresh out of the acadamey looking to get something on their resume while they finish any schooling they have left, but there is also so retired officers who volunteer just to stay an active part of the community. Worked great for a friend of mine. He was able to get by with his benefits from being a veteran with a part time job, finished school, and had enough practical experience to get a job as soon as his finished college. 2 years of hell though. 1 job, 1 unpaid job, and school all at the same time.

I suggest that you guys do some episodes on Tolstoy’s, War and Peace. I know it doesn’t really fit it with any of your categories (it could fit into Extra History if it was about how Tolstoy wrote the book, and the story behind it), but I think it’d be really interesting.
