That is such an awesome project, you are so lucky to have this geostationary toy, here we're only left with Leo satellite, no more the time America could reach not only North and South America at the same time but also half of Europe and Africa with AO 10, i made beautiful contact back then but now we are limited to 10-15 minute pass that early cover West part of Europe and est part of America for a couple minutes on rs44... Nice station you got there!

not geostationary but Meridian-8 has 440 MHz uplink; 480 MHz downlink

Nice review Matt! Do you have some specs about the low pass filter they are using? I assume it is a harmonics low pass?

Since this transceiver operates in the 2.4 GHz UHF band, could this be legally used as a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth amplifier? I would be especially interested if this is the case for the 300-watt model.

I don’t think there is a receive path, therefore would not be suitable for WiFi / Bluetooth.

Excellent stuff but also a bit scary with that much power in the WiFi band. I imagine with some ill will and 300Watts you can kill the 2.4 GHz in an entire city.

DIRECTED RF WILL NOT WIPE OUT THE 2.4 GHz BAND, THAT WOULD REQUIRE AN OMNIDIRECTIONAL ANTENNA WITH EXTREME GAIN. NO FEAR WITH THIS. ANYBODY RUNNING SYSTEMS IN S-BSND WILL NOT WASTE THE TIME TO SWAMP THE BAND IN THIS FASHION.

We use very narrow beams at 13cm, even for ground comms. But I guess a yagi or omni could be used. Just don’t look at it! All joking aside, I think mobile phone masts output a lot higher power than 300 watts, so I’m sure we’re safe. I’ll let you know if I start mutating!

@@TechMindsOfficial The 300W is power margin to operate the amp in backoff. I dont think someone uses 300W ave at 2.4G. But if smo wants to amplify modulated signals with high PAR, e.g. for video or other high data rate modulation, they have to back off at least in dBs equal to the PAR

Wow, they are a bit on the expensive side plus the UK import duties. Sg-Labs have a 20W Amp at a reasonable price.

Not sure if it is expensive for what it gives. I was also triggered by the price and checked the prices for some of the parts used. Well the TR they use is almost at the price of the SG LABs PA (ceramic, cpc flange etc). It looks that the pcb is of Rogers material, and from the iridizing color of the housing as Matt was twisting it, I will take the bet that this box is alodined. So in absolute numbers yes they are on the expensive side, but quality has a cost. On the other side it would be great if they have local distis in UK so we can have it a better price. This Makis store is adding a 24% VAT? Where is it located?

I don't wanna be rude but 259,16€ per this little metal cased amp... i understand that LDMOS is expensive. But it's just not worth it because i'm sure that shipping also goes 40-50€ on top of that.Yes there are cheaper legit variants and yes their output is bit less than this puppy can do but c'mon.
