Definetly the most destructive is the Hacksmiths, but Jairus probably has the most optimal. Would love to see Hacksmith upgrade the doomfist with system that would more constanlty extend the pistons at the most optimal time. Again in few slowmotions the hydraulics are fully extended before the fist hits the object which isn't very optimal. Jairus has this kind of mechanism but it seems to hit too late.

Technically, having the hydraulics extend at any point before impact is completely useless because of newton's third law. The pistons not only push the fist forward, but also push the rest of the arm rig and his arm backwards (not enough to make the net velocity of his arm reverse, clearly). So, while the fist, as its own entity, is moving forward faster, the rest of the rig and his arm decelerate, making little to no overall difference.

Also, if it would be possible to upgrade the fist to extend up the arm in order to provide better support as well as power (a sort of hydraulic exoskeleton thing), I think it would work much better.

The power fists are a lot lighter, so I’d say that they’re probably superior in the functionality aspect. In coolness, I’d probably say the doom fist, clearly. In destructiveness, also the doom fist.

As i said last time on this, you arent getting much, if any, additional momentum from the pneumatics the way you have it now. Its fully extended long before it makes compact, which means most gain from them are lost, and most of the energy is coming from gravity. To get the most effect from the pneumatics, they should be in the process of extending as it makes impact, so it gets pushed through the object, and the momentum is imparted more into the object. The best way i can think of to accomplish thus is something like Jairus' with the piece there, but instead have 4, equally spaced, at about a 75 degree angle, well hinged, so when it makes contact, those are forced outwards, moving with the hinges, and it activates the pneumatics just before impact, while also not changing the surface area as much as a spike. Also power fists are mean to be useful in forward punching. That is why games like fallout have them. There are many better objects to use in a downward swing, but less so in a forward swing. Otherwise, just use that sledgehammer, the length of it increases the velocity, and energy imparted. In a forward motion, it is nearly useless to use a sledgehammer. Overall a great concept, but definitely needs tweaking.

I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how much I appreciate your channel, you got to start a business where you can build pretty much anything you want going in blind without knowing if it's going to work or not or if you'll have sufficient funds to do it. To me building a company that deals with products like this (with no actual market) is madness, it sure must've been hard at first to make these projects happen while at the same time having to pay yourself and your employees, you really took a gamble (and worked your ass off I'm sure) and you were successful, my honest congrats for that. As an engineer myself, I also enjoy hearing you talk about the engineering side of your projects, it's truly beautiful and mind blowing, maybe you should consider a second channel where you get into more technical aspects of your projects and the machines and tools you use, I'm sure you'd have an audience for that. I wish you and this channel the best for the future to come. Cheers

Destructive: the sledgehammer had no problem pulverising the canterblock. Cool: nothing can beat the look of a sexy sledgehammer, also it's a classic. Funktional: the sledgehammer needs no batteries hydraulics or maintenance, you don't have to wear a backpack to use him, therefore your faster more mobile and last longer! The sledgehammer ist so good they even sell them in Hardware stores...

I still remember when you made the original power fist. Still would be a cool addition to an exo down the road, since you already use the pneumatic backpack from the exo. Hacksmith's is obviously the most destructive, and the doom fist is just awesome looking, though it's very heavy and requires a big pack, making it unwieldy. Jairus seems to still be strong, yet still light enough to easily carry, making it more functional. Honestly though I'd love to mess around with any of the three.

To be honest, looking at the Hacksmith's Powerfist, I think there could be some improvements done with the trigger as the guy with the trigger at the front had the best momentum on improving his punch. On the other side, Hacksmith's had the best weight to smash things - so it was more the momentum than the pistons I'd say. Overall, I'd love to see a combo of all three.

What do you think of a gauntlet that changes weight, using compressed air to shift ball bearings into a honeycomb of tubes, and gravity to return them to a reservoir. Maybe using a shear thickening fabric for the gauntlet itself to transmit the force of an impact.

Doomfist may be more powerful, but I think the fallout powerfist is cooler, and it’s more practical and functional, because the power and co2 tank pack is smaller, and it’s not a massive metal sculpture weighing down your arm.

All things considered, the doomfist was effective solely due to it's weight. A lot of the time the mechanism was already finished before it hit.

Weight is the main factor, but the spikes definitely helped since the pressure is way better than when hitting with the whole area using a square shaped head.

I can see some definite advantages and disadvantages of each fist, i like the fact jarius has a a way his punches on a trigger but for a stronger hit it should trigger slightly earlier so the human punch and 'power punch' are moving at the same time. Not his current system i know because it triggers on impact but maybe some kind of accelerometer set up would work. Hacksmith's is a bunch heavier which helped it a lot (but obviously made it difficult to use), plus the spikes mean it applies a much greater pressure simply because its punch area is smaller. Basically you could make a massive upgrade to each in a different way, to make the DOOMFIST more practical (and amazingly badass) why not strap it to some kind of exoskeleton (like the one i know you have hanging around somewhere) then you might not struggle to lift it as much and could punch rather than drop. The exoskeleton got me to the channel in the first place, back when it was just arms so anything that makes new parts for that seem super cool. Yes, i have been subbed that long, since then i went through a lot of school and got into an engineering and physics joint honours scheme at uni, your stuff among others is the sort of inspiration that made me do this. Where would all us engineers be without scrapheap challenge, robot wars (not sure if they made it over to our Canadian cousins or if they only allowed us Brits the privilege of their viewing) and the internet? Keep being destructive and inventive!

Jairus barely even needed his hydraulic fist. But the fact that the doomfist needed multiple wielders due to the damage inflicted on the user kind hints at -design oversights- it’s pure destructive potential. So while the spiked fist is cool, something about the very first hydraulic fist’s small size makes it the most discrete and cool

Btw, James I got an idea for a project for 2020 that will take time to plan and build (and it is expensive, as always): the motorcycle from the classic anime Akira. you should try making one with a weight around or next your arm and when you punch it comes forward, giving your punch more velocity.

Mostly its the momentum of the mass that is crushing. I'd say if the fist didn't have the extending mechanism before the impact, still it would smash a watermellon, crush a can of coke etc.

Seems a bit unfair though as all the targets are down on the ground below you so more weight wins and just be dropped. If the targets were upright or you had a timer for having to hit X amount of targets in a row or even a target above you I think the others would win in the end. All great builds and I'd love to see a collaboration of you guys perhaps perfecting the power fist? I was thinking if you had it like a glove within a glove with shock absorption between them for your own arms might be a good idea as that can do some real damage to your muscles and joints.

It's kind of stupid when they smash stuff thats very easy to smash..melons. Glass/ceramic. Like when they were going to smash a door. I was excited to see it punch through a door. But it was a glass door.

full metal gets the most functional for me cause the hack smiths is way to acceserised and the fallout one apears to activate after the punch, coolest goes to the fallout one because i said so, and destructivity goes to hacksmiths because duh, they have like 8 pumps on that thing
