@@dancassidy7471 Poor you Dan, no response. I am a retired 77 year old nurse. For me I try for an hour a day and more if I am still having fun. Hands can get tired too. Best to break it up, I think. Maybe three hours tops for one day Hope that you are progressing nicely. I am just starting again and wish Pianote had been available years ago. The bass clef note reading has always been my downfall. Best to you.

Dear Lisa, I have followed your lessons for 7 months and you’ve made me believe that an old dog (can) learn new tricks. I’ve told you before in a previous comment that I’ve always wanted to learn to play piano. I was apprehensive because I have Shrapnel damage to my Left hand and some of my fingers aren’t able to be as flexible as I would like. It was so hard at first but you once said that I could use the finger position that works for me. So I did and it worked. Through constant practice and believing in myself I’ve not only learned to play basic melodies but my understanding of chords, notes, arpeggios and so much more is becoming second nature to me. I am so proud of my progress that as a birthday present to myself I plan to signup for your full course. I’ve just turned 61 Yrs old this month. I’m playing not for fame or to impress others, but for me and me only and I couldn’t be happier. Your enthusiasm, energy and infectious smile has made me believe in myself. Thank you so much. Not sure if this helps anyone but I wrote it down: Step 1: Left hand arpeggios: - D, F#, A, D (2nd time stop at F#) - B, D, F#, B - A, C#, E, A - G, B, D, G Step 2: Right hand triad (inversions): - D major: root (D, F#, A); 1st inversion (F#, A, D): finger 2 instead of 3 and move hand forward; 2nd inversion (A, D, F#); root and back - B minor: root (B, D, F#): hand slightly forward; 1st (D, F#, B); 2nd (F#, B, D); root and back - A major: root (A, C#, E): use C# as landmark for hand movement; 1st (C#, E, A), 2nd (E, A, C#); root and back - G major: root (G, B, D), 1st (B, D, G); 2nd (D, G, B); root and back Step 3: Line up arpeggio notes with chords (first with one note per chord and finally with two notes for every chord!) Bonus: end with A and D (left) and D major (right) I’m waiting for my piano delivery (haven’t played for like 8 years) so I’m preparing my practice exercises! Thanks for the great video!

An extension to this would be to reverse the hand patterns, so the right is playing the arpeggio while the left is playing the chords. Both hands should improve at various techniques.

@@Kassiusday I give that time frame as the point where you will have less 'nervous fingers", and things start to move more smoothly. The best piece of advice I got when starting out was not to think of it as two hands working independently, but 10 fingers working together. The first two handed song I could do was the amalie song, and it will definitely give your left hand a workout. If I could go back in time I would probably just drill cannon in D with each hand and slowly put it together(also learn the right hand part with the left hand, great exercise for all the fingers), seems to be one of the songs that really breaks open the mind when trying to use both hands together, I still don't have it perfect.

You always learned to do everything with your 2 hands synchronised closely !! Once I thought gosh ! is like playing my bass guitar one hand and the other one my guitar at the same time !! But is exactly that challenge which motivates me to hold on ! Despite frustration !! I should have started piano long time ago ... but bass has always been my beloved instrument ... but now older I am passionate by musical theory chords harmonic etc and piano is the greatest instrument to learn all of that .!! I planning to organise my life around that aim as hobby will wake up early to train ... travel with a 66 keys etc will see where I stand in 5 years and 10 years ! Cheers ! 🥂

You are FANTASTIC!!! 61, have had a Yamaha P70 in my living room for years! Was really good as a kid (classical) read music etc. Mom was a piano/music teacher. 1919 Steinway baby grand still in the family. Mom still plays daily at 87. Got started again a few days ago. Amazing how quickly it comes back. 12 hrs of practice in 3 days. Something really fun to do during these crazy times at home. Thank you!

Who are these 102 people giving this marvellous stuff a thumbs-down? Why even do that? If it's not your thing, just move on. Why be like that? It's not like there's anything offensive here. Puzzled.

Some people just want to see the world burn. This was maybe recommended and they disliked it because piano is not their thing and they hope it will go away. The majority of negativity about is not a reflection of the person or content we think it’s related to. The negativity is usually a reflection of the way the person giving the negativity feels about themselves or has failed to realise about themselves. 102 people either don’t want this content or need some help to be happier.

I think most of the thumb down people are just jealous of this piano teacher because of her talent. It's just annoying.

Liking *or* disliking a video is better for the content creator than moving on without a rating. The UKposts algorithm cares about engagement as a whole, so even an extremely disliked video will make money.

Hello. I’m new to your channel and I’m 10 but I’ve been playing piano since I was 6. I live piano, so to new beginners I really recommend one thing: Never give up if you fail; And always work hard to achieve your dreams. My dream is to become a pianist! Thank you Lisa for the lesson because I really enjoyed playing the arapeggios with you :D 😃 I will show this to my friends who also play piano 🎹:))))

I have been trying to practice chord inversions on my own. My method was boring, so I didn't practice them very often. After watching your tutorial I am looking forward to practicing them. I even practiced them while breakfast was cooking this morning!

I have been trying to teach myself piano for more years than I can remember with little to no progress. At age 71, I fear I don’t have the coordination or the musicality to succeed, but I keep trying. I love your enthusiasm and the clear way you present the material. I’m anxious to try this. Wish me luck!

Is there a video that shows how to determine the finger pattern to use like 1-2-5 vs 1-3-5? Thank you.
@lettersquash
@lettersquash 3 роки тому
It's basically what feels most comfortable with your own trial and error. There are some triads where the first gap near your thumb is smaller, so 1-2-5 makes more sense.
