The gun salute was when they arrived at Arlington. I'm guessing that since this is the first time they did the wreath ceremony on Inauguration Day they would only do the gun salute at the military setting. Of course I have no idea and the fact that they didn't do it right when Biden was sworn in still unsettles me.

Because she isn’t the Commander-in-Chief. Biden can choose render a military salute or not, but for the VP, a civilian salute is appropriate. Generally speaking, it is inappropriate to render a military salute out-of-uniform or with the head uncovered, but the President, as Commander-in-Chief of the US Armed Forces, has some leeway on this. Heck, Biden’s salute was even a decent one. I’ve seen some awful sloppy-looking ones from some Presidents-including those who went to a military high school 😉

The tomb of the unknown soldier represents all unknown soldiers that die in battle and that is why it is important.

This monument is from WW1, when identifying soldiers was more difficult. A few particular decreased soldiers were excavated in France and the Tomb was built as a symbol to honor them and all soldiers whose identity and sacrifice remains unknown. The last recovered yet unidentified buried soldier here was from Vietnam, yet with advancing tech, they were able to identify him and returned his remains to his family. This Tomb stands as gratitude to those that served and gave their lives, even if their identities cannot be pinpointed. It's not about guilt or politics like some are trying to make it out to be. It's purpose is to give thanks to those that allowed us to make the decisions we make today, good and bad, so that we can learn from the bad and continue the good, growing as a nation Whether or not we've upheld to their standards over the past decades is.... another story
