What's hilarious is that these videos (at the time of writing this) have been up for four years and have remained positive. Biden's inauguration video up on the White House's YT channel (at the time of writing this) was 11k likes to 53k dislikes. Doing some quick math/comparing the two with four major news channels of the likes and dislikes Trump has an average of 2.69 L/D (like to dislike) while Biden has a 1.57 L/D. Point to all this is they're trying to say he's a popular president? I'm not buying it now and I guess we'll see in 4 years what this is like

I voted for Biden but I don't fully agree with this speech. The United States have failed many times. We are not special. Pretending our flaws and failures don't exist, or in any way trying to diminish them, actively damages our progress. This speech is too political- too forgiving. We need to be accountable for our Military Industrial Complex and the incalculable harm it has done to this world and to ourselves. We are only "good" as long as we remain vigilant and skeptical.

How is it possible to give a presidential speech without using the word "bigly"?

I Looked At Trump’s Inaugaration Speech For Comparison And By God There Was A Huge Difference. Trump’s Speech Felt More Like A Rant And “Gloating”.

I don't understand how the country turned into this in 4 short years. Although 2020 felt like a lifetime. I honestly hope we get back to the way we were. I never cared about politics before. Most people didn't. Politics was that thing that happened in the background of life. You saw a couple bumper stickers touting who people voted for and that was about it. So many other things were important. There were so many other things to talk about. Now, politics is the forefront of so many people's lives. I've never seen so many people so outspoken about who their candidate of choice is. I've never seen a group so outspoken they stormed the Capitol building. Politics is something I see every day now. Covid was very early turned into a red vs blue issue. Now it's a political statement whether or not you wear a mask. I hope Biden is right, that we can get through Covid together as a country this time around. I'd love to get back to being social and seeing live music and movies at the theater again.

In all fairness, I'm sure Biden means well and is speaking directly from the heart and truly means what he says. I believe he is trying to the best of his ability to appeal to a divided audience and unite them when they would prefer to be anything but united. I believe Biden has goals and beliefs and that he intended to portray them from the very beginning of his administration, starting with this speech and continuing to the moment I write this comment (March 30th, 2024). However, Biden is just not a good public speaker. This inaugural address sounds more like he's begging for a promotion at work than actually trying to inspire somebody to become better, or trying to motivate a group of people down on their luck to rise up, come together, and fight for what they believe in. Part of it is the poor contents of the speech, which I'm not sure if Biden himself wrote, if someone wrote it for him (which, let's be honest, is the most likely scenario), or if he is going off the cuff and winging the speech the best he can; regardless of the source, it is essentially the same message repeated over and over again without any real gusto or sense of passion behind his words. It is not an invigorating message of inspiration and hope but rather a fruitless attempt at begging for listeners that'd rather tune out the incoherent rambling of a washed-out, tired message that has been repeated so many times that it deserves it's own page on tvtropes.com: "We must come together, we need unity!" Compare this inaugural speech with the one from John F. Kennedy: over 1,000 words shorter, direct and to the point, simplistic language that is easy to understand but complex enough to leave an impact, and full of a beautiful tone of optimism and encouragement to acknowledge the hardships of life and to move above them in harmony with others and a general sense of grit, determination, pride, and passion for everyday actions and accomplishments. All of that which I described from the masterful inauguration of JFK is shown to be the exact opposite in Biden's inauguration. I have faith in the American government to overcome its divisions, lack of passion, and overall poor sense of spirit and to continue to press onwards and be seen as something truly admirable, magnificent and unique, not just to the American people, but to the rest of the world. I'm not blaming Trump, Biden, or any one individual from preventing this from not being the case in the present day; rather, I blame the sense of nostalgia for the "good old days" that blinds the public from what is truly happening and instead have them long for the past of now deceased leaders rather than rising up themselves and becoming the new leaders that the world needs. Despite the poor performance of Biden's public speaking skills and (depending on who you ask), performance in office, I believe it is best for everyone to stick behind the current president and trust in his leadership rather than giving into the hatred and paranoia of everyday life. Then, once the times of the next four years have finally moved on (as they will, just like history has proven time and time again), they can take initiative, learn from the mistakes shown by the previous leaders and those present in speeches such as this, and become the amazing leader that the world needs and I know they are capable of becoming. In short, Biden's speech may not be good, but at least it can provide a way for others (even himself) to learn and become better than what they currently are, not replicating the missteps from the past. TL:DR: Biden's inaugural speech, while well intentioned, is quite poor in content and delivery, sounding more like begging than actual speaking. Compare to JFK's shorter, more optimistic and motivational speech. Even still, Biden's speech can be used as a learning point for those who want change and are willing to rise up (which is anyone) as what can be improved upon for the future and hopefully improve the country to the levels I know it rise to once again.
