@Max in Saigon Mirrorless does not mean shutterless. The technology is different than what you have in your phone or a simple Point and shoot mirrorless that you use for vlogging. my 3800 dollar camera ( Just body) ( Sony A7R IV ) which I would bet most of these are using either that or the Canon equivalent. ( Nikon is a bit behind on mirrorless) They still have a shutter and make a shutter sound. Now they do have a quiet mode but the quality is not as good and you can get Banding in the images quite often. That is why most of the time they do not use silent mode. I get what you are saying, it is quite noisy.

That's the meaning of the gesture, so to her, she was showing heartfelt respect in a different way. Since she isn't military, the salute isn't considered the defacto means to show respect, and she chose another option.
