It's more complicated than that, when a fighter is extremely good at something his opponent can't just approach him that way or they'll get punished for it harshly. Take Paulo Costa and Yoel against Israel as an example (I know it's UFC but it gets my point across), look at both of their fight styles on a regular and then look at their fight style against Israel, complete opposites because they have to respect it.
