For most people, getting in and out of a high-performance catamaran is a snap. But Dave Burgess, a longtime powerboat owner from Michigan who years ago broke his back in a snowmobile accident, is not most people. His physical limitations had long ruled him out of owning even the most-custom “standard” go-fast cat-at least until he reached out to Justin Wagner, the creative genius behind Waves and Wheels in Osage Beach, Mo. Working closely with Burgess, Wagner and his creative team built a new 42-foot Doug Wright cat that is on the cutting edge of cockpit-access adaptation for physically challenged owners. For Wagner, who enjoys speed on the water as much as Burgess, the project was a labor of love that improved a friendship that started years ago. For Burgess, the twin Mercury Racing 500R-powered beauty, which was painted by Graphix1 Paint, is the catamaran of his dreams.
