Annexation? Russia is always dealing with border disputes as in Ukraine now which began with Washington and London weapons supply since 2014 and terrorist strikes killing 14000 Ukranians even before Russia entered to demilitarize our 8 year war incitement efforts. In 1925, Turkmenistan became a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, so Afghanistan was effectively on the USSR border. Compare that to the annex attempts by our USA every year - we are bombing Lybia, Iraq, Syria, Serbia, North Korea (1953), Vietnam. Ukraine, Japan (even before we dropped nuclear bombs, Japan were at the tail end of a peace negotiation organized by Russia, so our bombing there was completely useless and just murderous) and many other places. These are all far from our borders. The location of war alone is a good proxy for who the aggressor is.

Imagine being such a sore loser you hurriedly write your name on a "property" you don't even own and declare it's now yours forever.

All of this is so weird to me. So many resources expended, so many lives lost, just for one man to become the temporary master of a fraction of the world's surface. Imagine if all these resources had been expanded to build hospitals, food banks and scientific laboratories. Instead they were spent on bombs and missiles. But then, expanding one's motherland through the blood of the young and poor has been the dream of small men since the dawn of civilisation.
