Eugene, Ira and Nastya Karas lived in Mariupol. Nastya went to third grade, drew a lot of pictures and raised hamsters. On February 22, Nastya's father told her and her mother that they had to leave the city. A few days after that, a great war broke out. Eugene Karas died on March 7, defending Mariupol. He was considered missing, Nastya's mother was looking for ways to return the body from the occupied territory, and Nastya continued to draw pictures for her father and write him messages. Eugene's family was able to say goodbye to him only 14 months after his death.
There are thousands of families waiting for the identification of missing relatives in Ukraine. They stand in a long queue to say goodbye. Meanwhile, Ukraine ignores the possibility of international assistance with DNA tests. Will someone take responsibility for this?
