I've no idea how expensive the switch modules are, but I'd be tempted to leave a couple spare inside the enclosure, as knowing my luck they'd be discontinued the following week and start failing 11 months later!

I've tried various electronic switching devices and in my experience they only seem last for about 5 years before they start to fail (and that includes LED lamps), they also seem susceptible to glitches (a good reason to install SPD's), which causes them to loose memory settings, which leaves you running around trying to find what you did with those instructions five years ago! Compare that with the life of a plain switch (which can be replaced for a couple of quid), and you can see any short term financial gain is fairly quickly lost, even with the unlikely event of the devices lasting 10 years. Cheers, Gordon

im not a leccy sir. but i could watch and learn all day. Your apprentice is a lucky lad, with a diligent teacher. The Quinetics are very clever, for and older person or an infirm person they could have the switch by thier chair -- light, heater, fan etc (my wife has the Hive thermostat on a stand near her so i cant turn it down --still doesnt realise i have access on the phone) best wishes..

This is absolute genius! I am learning at the mo and worked with a spark who re-wired a WHOLE flat ENTIRELY in surface trunking. And I mean ENTIRELY!!!!! This wouldn't obviously totally eliminate the trunking but certainly would have cut it down a hell of a lot!

Ps they has just had it painted, carpeted etc to rent it out only to have an EICR done revealing hardly a CPC in the whole gaff...... hence the trunking: it was their choice.

I haven't seen the other video yet, but is the feed for those receivers switched locally next to the box? It would make it easier when the next sparky comes to test for the condition report. Even a fused spur with 13a fuse would work.

Hi, very impressed with your video! I have a quick question, On a job today we have a exciting 4gang switch the customer asked for a additional 2 way switch to be installed but no way in getting cables in now. Was wondering if there was something i could install with out going grid style if there was a quinetic receiver that has IN and OUT connection with a switch connection to go to the exciting light switch like a s1 s2 connection? And the other end wireless? I know this is possible with smart switches

Thanks for making this video nick . At 13.30 point it showed 9 controllers in that box in the attic . I believe there is now 6amp dual controllers available .If you fitted dual controllers would that mean there would only be 5 controllers in that box ? And every thing else would work exactly as you had shown in the rest of the video ? I am just trying to understand the advantages /disadvantages (if any) of dual controllers . Thanks

Nick's given a glowing review about how brilliant Quinetic siwtches are but Expert Electrical don't sell them 🤔🤔🤔 and they can only be purchased from TLC. If I'm getting Quinetic switches for a job from TLC, then the chances are, I'll probably get everything else I need for the job from there too.

On the whole, seems a good job, nicely done. I try to use quinetics wherever I can, typically governed though by the price and what people are willing to pay. I wonder about the bathroom fan though, typically installation instructions require DP switching and/or 3 amp fusing, so how was that catered for? And that downlight hole was a bit close to the woodwork, so did the downlight manufacturer have a minimum distance to adhere to?

So I’ve had a quick read about quinetic lighting and it seams it’s main selling point is the wireless switches ( that don’t need batteries ) I have a smart home myself so I’m far from a technophobe, but I’m always a little uneasy about systems like this that require properly hardwiring into a house system, my thoughts are if the company goes bust or drops support for the product in 5 / 10 years time then the customer is abit screwed, also if they are wifi connected and the company decide that they want customers to pay a subscription, then again the customer is screwed. I’ve gone down the Hue lighting route myself for this reason ( normal lighting circuits, but smart bulbs and wireless switches ) I want smart lights / table side lamps, but if hue doesn’t support the system in X number of years then at least I can remove it all without messing with the wiring in the house.
@MatthewSeymour1986
@MatthewSeymour1986 3 роки тому
How do you account for ceiling lights being turned of by the wall switch? Do you cover them with wireless switch or a blanking plate of some sort. My Dad has hue but can't stand it as the wall switches are still there and so you have to give an explanation to anyone that goes to his house about how they work. I have a custom MQTT based setup that uses in line modules to the ceiling rose and no one would know unless told they were smart controllable. I like the idea of the invisible smart home.
@JohnoLapse
@JohnoLapse 2 роки тому
You can now get friends of hue switched that use the same enocean tech so it's all battery less too.
@chrisb594
@chrisb594 2 роки тому
All your points are pretty much not valid. Firstly, the company will not go bust, these switches will get more and more popular as time goes on. Even if for whatever reason they did go bust, they'll be another company using the same technology. Also as time goes by different technologies will emerge from this. Secondly, there main selling point is the power of kinetic energy, so your point about charging a subscription is irrelevant and no different to saying Hue could charge people a subscription.
