Ocon drove a fantastic race but if due to luck ( which is the reason ocon got the lead in the first place ) you had put alonso in the lead he would have won too. Actually, his pace in free air was better than ocon's and even saved him from Hamilton. That doesn't mean ocon didn't deserve the win. He drove very well. It is just that Alonso was faster. Well done to both drivers.

@@Sarahthompson2237 It was a mistake by Mercedes team / driver to not come for tires suitable for driving on a surface that had dried (they all had tires for damp track on) for the restart, all the other drivers did and so they start from the pit lane while Hamilton was on the actual grid. It just looks really funny because usually 20 cars line up on the grid but because of a weird set of circumstances (Red Flag / Race stopped because of Crash and track drying during the stoppage) only one car was on the grid.

Except on the final lap in Abu Dhabi

they didnt change tyres because they would have had a bad starting position from the pit, what they wanted to do was get an early lead to be able to change tyres while still staying ahead. unfortunately it was a risk that didnt pay off

With dry track you lose 5/6 seconds with intermediates compared to mediums In fact, it costs him the first stint (12°, he was blocked after gasly) and the second stint (1.2s behind sainz constantly) At third stint he had fresher tires, almost 20 laps for others, except alonso who has only 8, and thanks to that he could be able to defend against a 2s faster car (3.7s faster than the leader ndr) That move costs the win today, a huge amount of seconds

If he would have pitted and everybody stayed out of the pits then he would be the last and otherwise if he would not pit and stay outside like in the race he had bigger chances to win the race.
