He obviously chose preserve tires. He was clearly the slowest of the top 4. Mazepin stole 4 seconds from him, but he was a clear 10-15 second behind the top 3 on pace. Still a lot better than Gasly and Albon in the seat, but Verstappen has nothing to fear.

Then after the pit stops he had a 14 second gap to Lewis and a 12 second gap to max but Red Bull didn’t box him for some reason. Then the fresh tires got to temp and everyone closed in

Give him hard compounds and he'll finish the race on them and yes i know 2 compounds are needed by rules but man checo can do it on 1 set of hards

checo was faster from lap 16 ro lap 32.. 1 second faster than all the front 3 runners.. than after pit stop of hami,max and bottas he started to loose pace drastically.. lost that 14 sec gap to lewis.. if they had put him on hards which would be 5 0r 6 laps younger.. he could have caught bottas [7 seconds behind] by the end of the racce with his tyres on prime age..sadly rb left him till 57 laps on mediums [lost 14 sec to other cars for 19 extended laps on that tyre with vibration] and he couldnt do anything except get that 4th position after lol
