Only Radiohead can have two drummers and still need their lead guitarist on the drums as well.

Clive Deamer (the second drummer, famous for working with Portishead and Robert Plant, among others) said in an interview that Phil Selway called him out of the blue and asked for his help to recreate the songs from TKOL, because they had no idea how to perform them organically without having to use samples and click tracks. Phil then went to Clive's house and played him the album way before it was released. He was baffled by the rhythmic complexity of songs such as "Bloom". They both spent a week in a studio sorting out each part of each song, with the rest of the band accompanying from a distance and chiming in here and there. The idea was to have Clive only for the From The Basement recording, but those sessions sounded so good that their 2011 schedule expanded: some TV appearances, a couple of New York dates and a surprise gig at Glastonbury Festival. A full world tour then came in 2012. Clive says this was his trial by fire and one of the defining moments of his career. The band must have enjoyed it as well, because Clive appears in A Moon Shaped Pool (he created some of the drumming parts in "Ful Stop" during the 2012 tour and got to add it to the final recording) and he was also in the 2016/2018 tour.

I really hate how no one ever mentions Give Up The Ghost, as I truly believe it's one of their most beautiful and haunting tracks ever. It sounds like a graceful, yet cautious march towards death. Like a death that you have truly accepted and expect, though once it's finally in view, you still feel a tinge of fear and uncertainty.

I've been listening to Radiohead for nearly 30 years and I can't shake the feeling that this version of Bloom just might be the best thing they've ever done. It's absolutely sublime.

I had TKOL sooo underated, man, now I'm completely obsessed with it. Little By Litlle is just a total masterpiece...

This album came out right before my daughter had her first Manic episode and wound up in a mental ward. It helped get me through, and still reminds me of the experience. I called the sound "organized chaos' and likened it to what must have gone on in her head. 9 years later she is on meds and episode free (no drugs or alcohol) and this remains one of my favorite Radiohead albums.

Codex always seems to surprise me. The moment Thom sings "jump of the end" the complete atmosfere of the song changes and i get goosebumps. God i love these guys

Man I am always saying to myself just how underrated Colin's parts are. His lines perfectly blend into, if not outright establish the mood. He establishes and subverts his own motifs numerous times throughout the music - without ever lampshading what he's doing. Just amazing. And the worst part is they're so fitting and low-key, they're actually rather easy to take for granted or miss entirely. Ranging from beautifully counter-intuitive to deceptively simple at times - Radiohead would not be the same without his musical ear and choices. He carries so much of the band without ever even making it obvious. (and that tone?!)

I absolutely love the way Codex is played here. I don't understand why many people don't like Codex, the song is so beautiful and is why it's my number 1 favorite in The King Of Limbs album entirely.

It never ceases to amaze me how much Radiohead tracks actually grow on me. In Bloom was always at least nice, then slighty alluring, and now almost two years after I first heard it I never wanted it to end just now. That whole last minute or so has me transfixed.

I love every album by Radiohead, but for some reason this is the album I keep closest to my heart. It's so bass and drum driven with the occasional guitar melody soaring through. The end of Separator with the looping guitar lick just breaks your heart.

I get that they had fun with a sort of "chop up and edit film" approach to the official TKOL release, and I think that unique approach resulted in an interesting sound for them. But man, this Basement session is superior in every way because of just how much the songs are open and breathing.
