We can learn so much from Freddie and Queen. When you're not at your best you never give up you keep going. He said he was prepared to starve (and did )chasing his dreams. When the boys were about to give up Freddie said you have me now let's take one more shot. The rest is history. Queen #1 💖💖💖💖

This band banded the people together. I don't know any other way of describing the difference between them and other bands. All I know is how they make me feel when I watch them perform and listen to their music. I feel included. I feel that what they are doing is for us, just as much as it is for themselves. I am absolutely head over heels for Queen and especially Freddie. What a GIFT he was. A gift that keeps on giving and will keep on giving for generations to come. 💞

They didn’t stop performing there because of Freddie’s ‘deteriorating health’. It was because the album Hot Space didn’t sit well with the US which made them lose popularity and lost them for good in the music video ‘I Want To Break Free’ because the US didn’t know what Coronation Street was.

Freddie was in perfect health when this performance was recorded. It was, however, their final tour of the US. not for health reasons, but for the simple fact that the members of Queen thought the American audience did not like them anymore after the release of the Hot Space album. Freddie also thought touring America was an exhausting effort he dreaded to endure. Both reasons mixed, they decided not to tour the US again. I saw this show when it was live and thought it was amazing. I also saw them live at Madison Square Garden in July of that year and it remains, to this day, the best live performance by any band I have ever seen. Please do proper research before posting something that is not true. It’s how rumors are started and in the end, it makes YOU look bad.

Wrong. He'd been to the doctor in NYS and had thrush, a known throat disorder in early HIV. He did not get into an argument with his boyfriend as it was well known he was on his own and in bath houses the entirety of his NYC stay. Although he was not diagnosed at the time, he was in the early stages of HIV. This is a fact and accepted by many of his friends and colleagues at this point.

@alexschrodt
@alexschrodt 4 роки тому
Absolutely nothing against Queen, Nirvana, the Replacements, or any of the MANY legendary performances SNL has been host to (if you haven’t seen Childish Gambino performing “This is America”, you need to), but the top spot in my book has to go to Elvis Costello in (I believe?) 1977- he had been booked on the show at the last second when the scheduled musical guest, the Sex Pistols, had to cancel “unexpectedly” after encountering Work Visa/customs problems due to criminal records of certain members- needing to find a last-minute replacement, Lorne Michaels “puts in a call for another one of those British new wave punk groups that everyone’s talking about”, and somehow Costello got the nod, haha... anyway, SNL, being legendary for censorship of musical guests, apparently tells Elvis Costello that the only song he’s allowed to play is “Alison”. So, in response, when they cut to the band live that night, after playing the first two notes or so of “Alison”, Elvis Costello waves off the band to stop playing, runs up to the mic and says “I’m sorry ladies and gentlemen, but given the circumstances I’ve got no business playing anything other than this”, and immediately launches into “Radio Radio”, his anthem against the evil, censoring, controlling establishment, and earned himself a lifetime ban from SNL in the process! Which, of course, means he did it right, haha... “they say you better listen to the voice of reason/ and then they tell you if you don’t then they’ll say that’s it’s treason/ so you had better do as you are told/ you better listen to the radio” Genius. And totally legendary. Had the network producers clutching pearls, hahaha.... I highly recommend finding it and watching a piece of legendary rock history of you can. Sh*t’s important!

My thoughts: 1) Deacky looked so cute throughout the whole video like omg my heart 💓🕺🏻 2) Roger covering up for Freddie knowing the fact how much its hurting him while singing had giving the biggest uwu feeling ever. How much he cared for him is wat it showed. 3)Brian giving Freddie encouraging looks in between and especially when Fred did that high note. 4) And of course Freddie giving a great performance as always even after how much his throat was hurting. At the end of the video you can definitely see that he well knew that this wasn’t his best performance but he loves his fans so much he did it for them. He was sad in this performance and didn’t have a very good day before

This is the most I've seen of Deaky in a video and he looked like he was having a great time. Around 3:50 Freddie gave that quick head nod he does to Deaky and Deaky returned it.

Freddie seems to be awkward with a small studio performance. Freddie is more suited to a large-scale performance. Miss you Freddie ~!!

This is when Queen was starting to be forgotten. I became a fan around 86 and most people thought they were broken up.

Nancydawn13, Really? You don’t care for the original version, a duet with David Bowie? BC, that’s the one all others are to be compared to, IMO. I’ve never seen this version before. It was fabulous!!!

Seeing John’s shirt sure brings back memories or the good ‘ol 80s fashion!!!! It’s crazy how it’s making a return now. Especially the high-waisted pants!!! Lol John definitely seems like the quiet reserved type. But I bet they’re all sweethearts. You can tell that they love each other like brothers. I’ve seen some interviews with Brian and Roger just after Freddie’s passing and you can see how much sorrow is in their hearts. And only speaking highly of their dear friend. Not that it would’ve been likely anyways, but it really bums me out that I will never have a chance to meet Freddie . I’m 45 years old now and that was the age when he passed. Even though I know he would be 73, i believe, now In my head he still 45. And totally sexy!

If you have ever been in this room where this is filmed.. it’s amazingly tiny. Even the audience... it is so intimate. Anyone else hat was there got to see one the last performances of an icon.

This was at the end of their US tour. In 1984, they released the video for "I Want to Break Free" and was banned by MTV because they were in drag. Freddie was so pissed off, he vowed not to return to the US until they had another #1 hit. They toured the world in 1984, 85 and 86, by which time Freddie was getting weaker. He was diagnosed HIV positive in 1987. Given 2 years to live, he lived another 4, recording every chance he had.

I had two friends die of AIDS in mid to late 1980s. The best advice they were given was to get into the gym and bulk up. The greater their muscle mass the longer they staved off becoming really sick. If you look at Freddie's videos of the mid 80s you can see when he started bulking up. Then after a year or so you can see in more videos when he began taking the meds with the steriods in that changed the shape of his face. He was taking them in the 1987 videos of Barcelona. In this video he still has his lean physique. This is well before he got sick. They toured the world two or three more times after this.

ClissaT I thought he must have been taking some kind of medication in later videos that made his face fuller. I feel so sad when I think about the people like Freddie who contracted HIV around the same time he did. They didn’t even know there was anything to be wary of at the time it happened. Such a shame.

Brad Marcus I don’t blame him. MTV had no right to ban anything that a Music group uses as a prompt. I’m an American and I did anything that I could to protest what they did, so did my friends. We all LOVE QUEEN AND FREDDIE MERCURY
