In this video, we take a look at the all-new Raspberry Pad 5 from Big Tree tech. This turns your Raspberry Pi CM4 into an awesome little portable media, Gaming, Dev Terminal, weather station, or whatever you can imagine because it adds a 5-inch IPS touch display, Full-size HDMI, RTC, 40 GPIO pins, and SD card to the compute module 4! I personally wanted to get my hands on this to build a real cool CM4 mini Cyber deck. It supports all the major Raspberry pi Operating systems like Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu, Pop OS, and Android.

hey, I have an idea about the "easy cyberdeck" setup! you could design it so that instead of a clamshell, you'd have a slide-on mechanism for attaching the keyboard, would also be really easy to do, you can do it with 2 layers, filing away till they make a hole between them, or with three layers, which go "solid backplate" "layer with holes for the posts to slide into" "another solid layer", the latter of which doesn't necessarily have to be full-size, it just needs to cover the holes, keeping the sticks/posts in, and then on the bottom part, you could use the same material that you just cut out of the middle layer, file it down a little so it moves a bit easier (especially from the top end which you'd be inserting, probably try to curve the corners), and the bottom end you can screw or glue into the base part, or be ALSO slide-in into the base part (preferably you'd have screws or velcro or something that keeps it stable there, though), that way you can disassemble it into a much smaller and less fragile state (e.g. you could feasibly put it in a bag, without risking breaking it due to something else pressing against it a little too much, etc, so you can take it outside of your home) make it into an actually portable setup, not merely a "you can hold it in your hand, at home" setup

Being about the same price as a Lilliput 5 or 7 inch monitor, which I used on my last one, this would make a great way to do PiHole for the house, being able to see the status screen PiHole has... with less jumping through hoops to get the resolution to match the monitor.

its nice to see a pi based tablet style board that doesnt have a super thick back or, like that one you reviewed a while back, a handle permanently sticking out the one side. i hope your cyberdeck doesnt come out thicker than it is tall, that tends to be a problem with a LOT of peoples builds.

You know what I wan to see that noone else has done yet? A speedtest of an 8gb pi4b on 32bit Raspbian vs 64bitRaspbian. That's the one pi model that I would think has the best chance of improved speed due to significantly more Ram being able to be devoted to one process.

Cool little PC. I could easily see this being used as a visual entertainment "remote". Tap the icon for what you want to watch or hear and then have the HDTV serve as the main display using its speakers. Or run the HDMI through an amplifier so you get better audio. The chicklet keys are too small for me to use. Would it be possible to link this to another touch screen connected via USB 2? Then you'd have a dual touch screen mobile PC. The lower half could be for mouse, typing, secondary status information, or maybe controlling extra features / games?

If almond improves, it would be a great competition for Alexa devices. I would add a video camera with mic and some micro speaker to make it a home internet phone, "video calling machine" with linphone (or Jitsi or WA or zoom). Now that everybody learned, and that will be cheaper and much better than landlines.

Nice. I feel like you don't really need any standoffs? It kinda looks like the screw posts already are the same height as all the connectors, so maybe adding some washers is all it takes for the most compact version of this. Also with bending the material you could make a "unibody" design that covers the sides as well as integrate that keyboard arm in one single piece (and add cutouts to the right spots for the connectors). If furthermore you add a bulge into the base between monitor and keyboard (by bending the material around say a wooden dowel of sufficient diameter) you can make that into a tubular battery holder for a bunch of 18650 cells. Probably won't give you the most capacity, but would give you the most compactness.
@fetchstixRHD
@fetchstixRHD 2 роки тому
Thought that but the Ethernet port 3:43 seems to bulge out a bit too much to let you get away without the standoffs? Could cut around it though I guess!
@J0ermungand

Kind of while you're on the topic of it I've asked this question once before I didn't get a reply so hopefully this time someone can answer for me I'm at raspberry pi I tried to install an Android system on it from one of your last videos that you've talked about it in I got to work that part was great and everything only issue I had was regardless of what size I put into it it only gave me 16 gigs to work with and that's not counting the pre-installed stuff so no matter what I can only put so many apps on it so I was very very limited is there any way around that or do you know another version that lets me use a much space as I want? Cuz other than that the only solution I saw was to download the apps that I needed to use them but wouldn't result in me having to delete them as I went on so yeah if there's any way around this somebody please let me know or even better yet if it's another system or a link that works better also let me know or even best if you find another one yourself if you can make another video on it that would also be awesome
