@eta Unrelated to this video...can you please do a video how to mod the arcade1up volume and on / off button? My 1up is modified with a raspberry pi but it would be nice to use those two buttons to control the volume and turn off the machine.

hey eta, i have an issue unrelated to raspberry pi. its a problem with retroarch on the nes classic edition. whenever i go to play a 64 game, it doesnt register any of my inputs! i need help with this, badly.

@@DELGADO759 It plays games the same. Ram only really effects how many apps you can run at once and things like video playback.

Pretty much as expected. One important note is that the throttling behaviour on the 3B+ was changed a few months after launch, potentially impacting performance - it now throttles to 1.2GHz at 60 degrees instead of 70. To get the old behaviour back, put "temp_soft_limit=70" in the config.txt file (you can't set it any higher). This *should* work on the 3A+ as well, but I haven't tested this.

Overclocking dude! Would also be nice if you could point a thermal camera on it, when overclocking, so you'd know which chips need additional cooling. I would like to see some overclocking done on this, with added passive as well as active air cooling. As well as some 3DMark and passmark scores.

512 MB ram is bad for Raspbian usage. Sometimes even 1 GB is not adequate on 3B+.

I've had a single Chrome tab run out of memory and slow to a crawl until I can kill the Chrome process. 512MB is only usable for headless, Retropie, Librelec, etc.

The only place you'll miss the ram is running a desktop. 1Gb as you say is barely adequate for that. But for almost anything else a Pi is useful for the A+ is a better option unless you need the extra USB ports. A camera for example would be far better off on the cheaper board.

Thanks for the comparison!! There is almost no reason to buy the 3a+ over the 3b+. The difference in price, power draw and form factor are negligible. If you want the power of the third gen Pies, at less cost, then buy a used 3b. For retro gaming, the extra ports are pretty useful to have anyways.....

In germany an used B+ costs more than new one (Times we live in), B+ new == 45 euro, and A+ is selling for under 15 euro :)

Not that different result, hmm I think stick to 3B+ for bigger project, with more USB port and Ethernet and go with 3A+ for more smaller project, need only 1 USB and wired free.

I know that it didn't sell well, but I still think that the Compute Module was a great idea... I'm still shocked that someone hasen't made a full replacement PCB for a GB that just lets you plop a RPI0 onto it, and everything else is just done.

There are a few AIO boards that allow for the CM3 or a PiZero to be basically plopped into a Gameboy shell. Do some homework via Google and the Sudomod forums.

Freeplay Zero, freeplay CM3, 8bitcraft's raspiboy, the pigrrl kits from adafruit. [requires soldering to some extent but is almost just as easy, and a better project for if your looking to learn more.] There really are a good amount of options if you want something relatively plug-n-play for portable pi emulation. Also the minty pi's newest iteration is really plug-n-play only real work that needs to be done, is cutting holes in an altoids tin once you get the parts kit and 3d printed pieces.

The point of this board is to have as much bang for $25. Adding more memory would cost more and would require going cheaper somewhere else like a weaker processor or GPU. If you are looking for a stronger single board computer then you need to move on to odroid xu4. Or you could wait 10 more years for the raspberry pi 8 to catch up.
