Dave Mustaine was born in La Mesa, California in 1961. He was brought into a family that already had 3 sisters, but a failing marriage between his parents. During 1983 and 1984, Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson would spend months looking for a drummer and second guitar player as Greg had left the band. Megadeth had already started to play shows in the San Francisco Bay Area and Kerry King from Slayer even joined the band for a brief time, but soon returned to Slayer.

More on Megadeth:
On April 11, 1983, Dave Mustaine was officially fired from Metallica. He said he was given “No warning” and “No second chance”.
On the bus journey back home to Los Angeles, Dave Mustaine vowed that one day he would take revenge against Metallica. He vowed to start his own band, faster and heavier than anything anyone had ever heard before.
Angry and filled with fury, Mustaine was out for blood. And he would change the course of Metal music forever with his band, Megadeth. And this is their story.

With 16 studio albums, 40 years of being a band and Dave Mustaines history with Metallica, there was SO MUCH I could have covered in this documentary. As much as I love Metallica. I think I can finally see that they don't like to talk about this stuff because they feel guilty. Dave said James cried a little during his firing. Dave getting kicked out of Metallica is one of the best things to ever happen for heavy metal music. Dave isn't meant to be in a band where his creative authority is limited by fellow band members. Megadeth is making seriously heavy albums. Dystopia is amazing. Metallica's latest album...eehhh...

@@100chuckjones Wow, that's cool you met Starr! I was too cool for AIC, they weren't metal enough for me at the time. Haha I changed my view in time though. Yeah I forgot about the 4th of July line, but you're right. I remember him saying "we're not here to hurt each other", and the crowd kinda expressed disagreement with that sentiment ( at least in the front on the floor where I was), which seemed to disgust him a little bit, and he just said "keep it up and we won't be allowed to come back". I was standing just behind where the firecrackers we're going off and the crowd was packed tightly enough that they were landing on people's shoulders and going off right in their faces... must've kinda sucked for the few people who got nailed. I have a clear vision of it in my memory. At the end of their set Lombardo threw a stick and a couple guys both had their hand on it. Instead of fighting over it they agreed to break it in half, so me and my buddy followed them over to the stairs where they snapped it and we both got a few splinters. I've still got mine somewhere. I don't know if it had anything to do with the firecrackers or not, but they didn't come back to Maine until 1999 in Lewiston. I think I remember early in Anthrax's set, Belladonna came out and ran around with a big inflatable microphone that he held at his crotch and waved around like it was a dick. Haha That's about all I remember if the show, other than Mustaine standing there ripping on his guitar, as usual.

Rust in Peace was my first taste of Megadeth. The guy at the music shop used to work at a local rock club and every week I'd go down to buy an album or two and on one occasion he recommended that album to me. Never heard of the band before but listening to that album all the way through in one sitting, reading the lyrics and looking at the artwork it was a truly mind blowing experience. From Holy Wars and it's explicit description of what war usually entails and leaves you with going through to the end of the album where Dawn Patrol describes what life would be like after a nuclear apocalypse and then the last track Rust In Peace - Polaris telling it from the point of view of the atomic weapon itself that just wants to destroy everything. I would encourage everyone to get the book, Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir. If you like Dave Mustaine, you’ll love it. Dave has had his problems, but, along will Neil Peart and Steve Harris, he is one of three musical geniuses in hard rock/metal. The other thing about Dave, which made Megadeth better is that he let the other guitarist in the band shine. He was never afraid to feature other guitarists at his own expense. This led to phenomenal music, especially in the Marty Friedman era, since Marty was the only guitarist that played with Dave who is better than he is.

Idk, dude. The line up now is pretty much spot on. Kiko is as off kilter as Poland, as emotionally engaging as Marty and as technical as Broderick. Dirk is so much like Gar, and Dave will tell you the same. And although when I think of Megadeth, I think of Ellefson, James is the better player. He strays way more off the guitar path and adds a dimension to the music Jr. doesn't. Ironically enough, Ellefson's most musical album is Risk. But, Lomenzo is such a killer player. When I think of Washington is Next, I hear the bassline. Not many Megadeth songs where you can say the bass is the more memorable part of a song. His contributions to United Abominations and Endgame cannot be overlooked. The guys adds so much. If this was the line up in the early 90's, they would be just as iconic as the RIP lineup.

"Not only was he kicked out of Metallica, The biggest rock band ever..". Huh? The biggest Rock band in the world? When he was kicked out of Metallica they hadn't even recorded an album yet? I first heard Metallica on the Metal Massacre compilations. "Hit The Lights" first, I believe, and another song with Dave and Ron. "Metal Militia", I believe..? Dave was kicked out right before making "Kill Em' All"! They hired Kirk from Exodus, and he had two weeks to learn the songs and the solos, before recording the album. My favorite Megadeth album was "Peace Sells". I loved the drummer from that album. Very prolific, almost like a Jazz drummer, and extremely talented. Then they got a "heavier" drummer. Saw them live with him, and he sounded prehistoric with mich less talent and creativity, but a heavy hitter. Last Megadeth show I saw was in an arena in Rochester, NY. Dave's always been great! But that lineup wasn't anything like "Peace Sells", and I never bought another of their albums. Metallica's Black album was the last I purchased. None since then though. Nothing very interesting after that. At least compared to the other albums.

@@grahamjarman No mate, i'm not missing any points, I've been following metallica since the beginning you are however changing the parameters See we are not talking about who HELPED to start it we are not talking about WHO WROTE A FEW SONGS the O.P.'s point (Which is what i was specifically commenting on, which you are reply to) is DAVE STARTED IT AND I SAID.... NO HE DIDN'T because he didn't. Now just to be clear on a few things because the way i see it You're a metallica fan, so am i , mate there's not need to argue if it's going in that direction, and maybe i'm not being clear and maybe you think i'm a troll or a hater or even a dave hater No i'm none of those I'm just saying the O.P's comment is incorrect I am acknowledging that Dave largely contributed on the first few albums and that he's an awesome guitarist I am acknowledging the awesomness of cliff (who could possibly argue that point) cliff didn't just help, Cliff basically rocketed them forward to success...... GOD BLESS CLIFF AND MAY HE REST IN PEACE but neither dave nor cliff started the band, which again, is the point the O.P. was commenting on Look, ... to keep this real ok if we look at what the O.P. was ACTUALLY TRYING TO SAY instead of strictly his words he was saying DAVE IS FUCKING AWESOME but he was trying to say also (and incorrectly) he is awesome because he started 2 of the greatest bands in metal well... HE IS AWESOME no one can doubt that , but first of all CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE, You are not awesome just because you start a band, so he is wrong as to why dave is awesome and he is wrong that dave started metallica Dave has awesome things about him and then has dickhead things about him. if we want to debate dave started metallica, well he also got kicked from the band he started didn't he, and if we get to the crux of it, it's because he was young and drugs and money and all that bullshit and it sort of turns you into a dickhead so we can debate that if we like, which still doesn't get us anywhere LET'S UNDERSTAND IT FOR WHAT IT IS 1. Dave didn't start metallica, Lars and James did, but more correctly Lars, but then he sort of stole the name as well, LOL... but formally it was Lars so that is a fact and it shouldn't be changed or debated 2. fact 1 does not take any glory away from dave, Dave didn't start metallica, so the O.P is incorrect, but in saying that THE O.P. SHOULD HAVE CHOSEN A BETTER POINT OF ARGUMENT TO PRESENT DAVE IN LIKE..... HIS SPIDER TECHNIQUE, HIS AMAZING RIFF ABILITY , HIS UNIQUE STYLE, HIS UNWILLINGNESS TO GIVE UP, No one is doubting that dave it awesome, but i think some people think if i say he didn't start metallica it means he is less than what he is ... NO I'M NOT SAYING THAT i'm just saying he didn't start it , but that doesn't affect his awesomness because regardless he still started Megadeth which turned out to rule the world as well SO... WHAT ??? IS STARTING 1 MEGA BAND (PUN INTENDED) NOT ENOUGH ????? Dave is a fucking legend in his own right and i haven't taken anything away from that I'm just answering the O.P. for what he's saying , but i'm also correcting the mistake that's it mate no bullshit, no arguing , no taking honour away from anyone, just stating facts and also.. No i'm not missing any points, Not at all i just think you guys are misunderstanding me

Of the Big 4..... Metallica - Most accessible, easiest to get into for new fans. A good place to start, and probably better lyricists than they’re given credit for. Anthrax - Most fun, by a landslide...Good time party music, even played a part in the Rap/Metal hybrid that came later. Arguably pushed the most musical boundaries of the Big 4. Slayer - The best “image”, they look exactly like they sound....Scary.....The rawest of the 4, and subsequent major influence on death metal. Megadeth - Most talented, by far. None of the other 3 bands could pull off such intricate arrangements. Thinking man’s thrash, almost prog-metal.
