RGB on a Productivity laptop definitely can have its place. Imagine certain highlighted keys for different tools depending on the program. No idea if that would be actually useful.

Ignoring the twat who decided you made “a big mistake”, I like reviews on the boxy shape, build quality, and 16:10 screen. While its pricey, it’s definitely got my eye, and im sure with the i7 and 16 gigs of ram it’d be an awesome daily driver for anyone who doesn’t like razer’s “gamer” aesthetic. I hope it works great for you for years to come!

I'm in the market for something exactly like this...but with AMD. If a laptop manufacturer can make something with this build quality and aesthetic, same screen ratio, with a Ryzen CPU, and keep Thunderbolt, that would be my dream machine. Swappable RAM would be a plus, but not expected in this size. Also, an AMD+Thunderbolt version of this would be the only thing I see competing with an M1 MacBook. As it is now, M1 Air or Pro might be better.

Even with amd, Razer would still overcharge you for this computer, if you want a super-premium 13 inch then get the MacBook. If you want a 13 inch that is objectively the best, get an XPS. Razer just can’t outperform the competition in either field.

I really like how Razer laptops look. They have a very streamlined design (although the logo is a bit much). It's awesome to see them use a 16:10 screen. Why they opted to offer a 4k screen in a 13 inch laptop and force it on you if you want more storage is a mystery to me. A 14 inch model would be even better for productivity, allow for a bigger battery and maybe better cooling. Also, ditch Intel already. Apart from a few programs that are optimized for Intel, most will run better on Ryzen. Not only that, AMD CPUs are also more power efficient and run cooler.

I have one but it arrived with a display fault so got to rma it. I have an xps 13 as a replacement now and I can say they are both very good but the book 13 has better cooling therefore a bit better performance and the touchscreen is nice. I also liked the design better but I cant wait for razer to replace it. Nice review btw

It’s insane. They could stuff a 4900h and a 3060 mobile or a Radeon card of similar performance. And being able to have 64 or even 128gb of ram inside a machine that small would make it a productivity workhorse.

The Sharp LQ134N1JW48 1900x1200 panel is supposed to go up to 500 nits or so of brightness, that might be the unit or how it was measured

I reminds me a little of my Latitude 7400, a slightly bigger 14 inch ultrabook. It is superb in every way except downward firing speakers. For some reason Dell has stuck with this on their business series laptops. They don't sound a bad at all, but this is 2020. But I guess having all them ports does require somewhere to put them and I would rather have things like USB ports over speakers that I would rarely use but.. this laptop actually has them. Impressive. Nice port selection given it's thinness. The problem for Razer here is Dell is a pro at making thin and light laptops, it's who they are. The XPS is a fantastic, if epic thin and light. Even Apple has major issues that the XPS has aside from Windows.. perfected.. well pretty darn close. It's a very high demand to think this would be a competitor. Aside from not having some of the ports I need without a dongle the XPS is a pure joy to own and use. I tend to buy the Developer's edition for precisely this reason. That and linuix strait out of the box. Nice!

Because of supply chain. AMD is no where near Intel in terms of the supply chain reliablity. Now it's quite difficult to get any AMD LV processors for manufacturers.

per-key RGB isn’t a bad idea for a productivity laptop. I’m on the market for a new laptop and saw this video. I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts. If I do end up buying this, I’d set the RGB keys for different things like all letters would be white, shift and tab blue or something, and number row like red for separation.

What were they thinking not offering this in black? Also its priced the same as the stealth with a much better GPU. What are they thinking with this laptop? If it was proced at $1799 and was available in black, I'd grab this for uni and I'd get the razer core so I can have a full gaming setup at home. Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to have to keep looking for my 'perfect' laptop.

Have you really measured the brightness correct? I find it more like the average 520 nits of brightness and that is on the FHD version.

I just got mine a week ago. I'm running Pop_OS! on it and I get 10-12hour battery life. This is a solid laptop, I've converted from Apple and this is an apple quality machine. The tiger lake processor is great very fast for very little power. My only complaint is the THX speakers are not quite as good as my wifes macbook. But the camera is better, especially in lower light in zoom meetings from home

I have a MacBook and it's on it's second keyboard. If you eat anywhere near your keyboard, crumbs will find their way under the keys and jam them. I must always key a can of compressed air handy and blow out the keyboard often. It's no problem really.

Yes, I prefer RGB. I need backlighting on my keyboards in general. The lighting helps to minimize eye strain, especially considering if you are spending hours each day on your notebook. RGB allows me to change up my conventional white lighting. Who doesn't like choice in general? Ravi Peiris M.D.

I am having the same keyboard problems on my Book13. Especially the lower keys like "c" or "x" do very often not work. For a machine that also cost me around 1300€ that's a nogo, so I will return my Book13 and will get a MacBook.. for this you don't even have to pay so much more...

@@mikeschmitzer5625 The dice has already been rolled, and the optimisation is pretty fantastic, with Rosetta impressing all PC-centric YT channels because the x86 instruction set has already been implemented, providing much better performance than Windows RT. Also, not many people game or do 3D modelling on a 13" Ultrabook, 99% mostly consume content, use it for browsing the web, writing emails/preparing word/excel documents and some light photo editing, maybe even some light video editing in Final Cut, which the M1 chip can do. So unless you have some real niche-case where you don't want to purchase a more powerful 14/15" laptop for your professional software or have somehow decided an expensive eGPU solution works for you, the M1-powered Macbooks are good enough for pretty much everyone.

looking at the benchmark results and pricing, its pretty obvious that this laptop is very much on par with the macbook pro M1. Would you consider making a comparison?

I saw a comparison and although it performed a lot better than the XPS 13, the lower watt XPS, it was still beaten in real world tests by the M1 Macbook Pro in most cases. Battery life was also only about half what the Mac could do and the Mac is of course a bit cheaper. The M1 Macbook Pro is the best ultrabook of 2020 and the only challenger is the M1 MB Air!

used to be a hardcore anti-RGB guy, but I basically changed my view when I realised that I can set RGB colour to my spesific mouse and keyboard custom profile, it becomes a game changer especially for productivity for me - the ability to colour code your work profile to your hardware is awsome

It's a very nice laptop but because I don't need a colour accurate display the price is hard to justify. Once you don't need that colour accurate display a Ryzen powered HP Envy X360 for sub €900 is a better option (I don't memorize all exact prices so it could vary). On the other hand if a larger size isn't an issue the Asus Zephyrus G14 is hard to deny for the same price as the Razer while it has an RTX2060 Max-Q dedicated GPU.

For productivity, I don't really NEED variable color backlit keys, let alone per key RGB colour. That said, it's a Razer signature, so you kind of have to give that to Razer. Personally, I'd rather have white backlight but better key mechanism. You're the second reviewer that noticed some keys being more softly/unevenly sprung and easier to miss actuating than others... at least those reviewers who bothered to type on the keyboard rather than just reading off the spec sheet, running a few benchmarks, them calling it a day. What a shame that a productivity-minded (and expensive) design missed the mark on the most important productivity interface... imagine the frustration from writing a document or inputting into a spreadsheet with constant errors from bad keys. Otherwise, this Razer checks all the right boxes for me... 16:10, top-notch performance among Intel peers, quality materials. My final four are MBA 16Gig RAM, Razer Book mid-spec, Spectre x360 14", G14. None is perfect... each has its own appeal and excels in different things for my usage.

Eber, a gaming air fryer would make more sense. they can make a cpu with thermal ceiling of 200 C, so i can game and fry chicken at the same time. the cooling fans will direct the heat on the chicken itself.

Why is there no 2K touch option? At 13", you do NOT need a 4K screen, I can say from personal experience. It just drains the battery, sucks up GPU power, and it's pricy. Just why?

I am not a fan of RGB. When I built my Ryzen 2600 desktop, I really wanted lighting but not RGB. It actually would have cost me more to not have RGB (and in some instances to sacrifice quality). As for a laptop, I am a fan of teal/blue key lighting or soft white lighting. If you get a laptop with a lighted logo on the lid, I prefer that it is implemented like Apple and just use the screen back light to shine through the logo. The Razer Book 13 looks like a boxier MBP 13. Do you want a 2021 MBP or MBA to come with RGB? I think that would look weird. Razer has been and always will be a gamer focused brand. As a result, I think RGB is fine on a Razer laptop but I don't like the business oriented designs from Razer.

As good as the new Macs are not everyone wants one or needs one. Some things required windows. Intel needs to do better and more laptop companies should consider AMD.
