I'm retired Navy onboard subs and my first boat was the USS Pickerel SS 524 in 1970 out of Charleston, SC. I remember a picture in the mess decks of the WW2 Pickerel and now to see it in RC is amazing and brings back memories. Thanks for sharing.

Gus - The USS Requin is moored down the hill from me and I've been through her numerous times. It astounds me how you guys lived and worked so effectively aboard a boat that small - much respect from a former US Army Infantryman!

As soon as I saw this I said “32nd Parallel!!”. I wanted one of these hulls back in the day but didn’t have the $$ for one. Best I could do was the full scale plans from them. I vaguely remember someone out west who built the USS Pampanito out of this hull. Thanks for the tour of this fine model sub 👍👍

@barryhinson9819
@barryhinson9819 3 місяці тому
Stuff the detail. You can add that on afterwards (probably save money in a short form kit. its the Superstructre Reliability and Engineering that count most. in a collision etc the details are the first bits that break off. If its moulded you have a gaping hole and more leaks.

Hi I just found your channel by accident. I can’t believe what you have here. I have never given it any thought whatsoever in my entire life. Well I am Totally Blown Away by this. I have sent a link to this to a good friend that is a Navy Veteran that did his time on a submarine and continues to be involved until today with submarines and submarine groups. Thanks for what you do here on UKposts you definitely made my day.

People have been building RC model subs since the 60s. This video is not a subject for awe or amazement. If you look at most of these "I built xxx" serials design flaws are general evident from the get go..It takes the rest of the several hours of recordings to solve or get around them

Fantastic run through! Ive been trying to build a 'smokeless' smoke system for my 144 scale RC warships and that looks like a perfect solution! That sub looks really well thought out.
@barryhinson9819
@barryhinson9819 3 місяці тому
Smokeless smoke systems have been around since the late 60s early 70s. Try model railways Triang Hornby in England had many models using an electric element and a small well of oil/water. A bit like a salad dressing mix , using soluble oil similar to sewing machine oil. Each time the train moved a piston would push a small column of air thru it , generating a smoke/vapour trail, out the smoke stack.

I am successfully operating my two subs already since beginning of last year with an ELRS 868/900mhz radio system. By this way I have the benefit of using any modern 2.4ghz radio equipped with a rf module slot, and running OpenTX or EdgeTX such as e.g. RadioMaster, FrSky, FlySky and so on. And I can dive as deep as previously possible with my old 40mhz radio sytem and at least with same range. So no need to have a surface antenna as necessary for 2.4ghz, which limits diving to periscope depth.

this is cool , but i am amazed no one hasn't built a RC sub at least 20 feet long , seems it would be most realistic in the water aside from just being flat out awesome , if i had unlimited funds i would have a WW2 rc sub built 30 feet long and spare no expense in detail , and i would have Howards H4 Hercules built also , 65 foot wing span with 8 radials RC of course also spare no expense in detail

Looks more like a massive piece of plastic , wood and .. (carbon) fibre (glass)to me. Wth RC controls motors and propulsion. This of course is an advert for the sale of this product. You can probably buy it for a gazillion dollars because it is only a limited run product and it takes a while to manufacture. Obviously if there are several made prior to (advertising in this forum) - the availability will be there but probably at about 10 times what it is work in terms of materials, Intellectual Property , etc. These days virtually any item is available off the shelf so the cost can be minimised by shopping around. The moulds are easy enough to make if you have a workshop. So where is the value to cost ratio? Mostly bragging rights - its value is an iota of its cost. To say you made it yourself, while partly true (in a buyers case) it is not really true is it? Plus it is limited in functionality. Picture a catamaran with a 3.5 hp petrol engine aluminium alloy composite . Similar to size shape and power as a brushcutter engine but designed for light weight. as such cost is upward of 6 x that of a replacement small Internal Comb. Engine. It will drive all propulsion, charging etc. It is configured 'ground wave'. the 20 inch prop provides lift and a minimal horizontal thrust. I have several motors - diecast and other for more lift and propulsion along with xyz tilt , yaw , etc control. It is made of PVC pipe from any hardware store - used for drainage and supply these are readily available with adaptors, and bends etc to suit. It is also submersible. Design is 90% complete. Parts are about 70% in my hand. I do not expect many design teething problems. At this stage. LOA is 1.5-2 metres.weight about 8-10kg. range ? The sky should be the limit. thrust 10-15 kg. As to usefulness. It would be limited only by the users imagination. so to return to your header or title I can supply a product that is 10 times more versatile, with lots of practical applications. It is certainly "massive", practical and would probably cost the buyer the equivalent of what you will be selling or marketing for.

@barryhinson9819
@barryhinson9819 3 місяці тому
Thank you for contacting me. Try reading it, I think it is useful for all . as to novels - they are works of fiction. Mine is not. It is underpinned by my many years of problem solving and as an electro mechanical engineer. Your videos probably demonstrate the pitfalls and tribulations of thousands before you. Don' t get me wrong - I admire your tenacity. (I have not viewed you footage either) but is not difficult to imagine what you went through.. Your epic , serial saga is quite the opposite of what any industry can afford go thru, indeed it tries to avoid it. .As a small business your costs are a fraction in comparison to theirs, plus you have no deadlines or supply /workforce issues either. Too many delays , reworks unexpected costs , perhaps even the dreaded "back to the drawing board" will send a company broke.. which, in a domestic would cause them to shelve it along with many other things that didn't quite come to fruition. On the other hand were you to "team with me ", others may get a buzz " watching the project come to reality. I may even consider you to act as selling agent for me. I am a Global computer Hardware/Software in electro /mechnical engineering. I am British - living in Hobart - Tasmania , Australia. That's a potted CV.. I feel your pain - Baa Haa. I used to work for DEC Digital Equipment Corp (DEC), HQ in Maynard, Mass. USA. Also Compaq/HP in later life. Check out Digital Alumni. I am qualified as a Global Specialist in Data Comms or Networking having worked for Global Telecomms Service Provider. All the things you are discussing I worked on in 60s and 1990s and beyond to retirement in 2000. Best regards, Barry Hinson
