This is a small motion test for a Mesmer robot head. Again its not CGI
This head and neck has 22 custom servo actuators - only 5 around the mouth which is not enough for really good lip sync - which is why its not speaking in this clip
Software is EA's Tritium frame work running on x86 Intel NUC
Interface is USB
Capable of autonomous human interaction, with in eye cameras and microphone array.
#humanoidrobot #mesmer #robot
Here's the full actuator list:
1 Right Eye Pitch (up/down)
2 Right Eye Yaw (side to side)
3 Left Eye Pitch
4 Left Eye Yaw
5 Right Upper Eyelid
6 Right Lower Eyelid
7 Left Upper Eyelid
8 Left Lower Eyelid
9 Left Inner Brow
10 Right Inner Brow
11 Left Outer Brow
12 Right Outer Brow
13 Jaw Pitch
14 Jaw Slew / Yaw (jaw sideways)
15 Nose Wrinkle
16 Left Mouth Corner / Cheek
17 Right Mouth Corner /Cheek
18 Head Roll (side to side)
19 Head Pitch (nod up /down)
20 Neck Roll
21 Neck Pitch
22 Head Yaw / Turn

I feel like another thing that give humanoid robots that uncanny look is the fact that their mouths do not work. So when just actually moving their mouths and syncing to an audio, it's inevitably going to look off. I haven't heard much of artificially made tongues or vocal chords, it would be really interesting to see if it were possible how it's functions would work. Another thing would be the lack of shine in the eyes. It's incredibly difficult work, I've always appreciated the process of this type of thing. - With skin, if you actually compare to human skin, it is actually slightly transparent and from underneath our skin, everything can still be slightly seen projected through, like how blush works, veins, blood. Maybe using a slightly more transparent material would solve something there, and it a more softer look.

There was a moment there that really had a nice realism to it and not in a creepy way. The wink sequence is awesome. Perhaps it's not possible because of the silicone or latex skin around the eyes but the blinks could be a lot faster. Also, the speed of the eye movement could be increased if possible for more realism. Big kudos to the team that worked on this project. It's quite an achievement!

And to clarify: This is absolutely brilliant work; I only offer these ideas on the off chance they could help you or give you an idea. Best of luck

@@EngineeredArtsLtd I highly recommend looking into the art of Abyss Creations. Yes, they are the makers of The Real Doll, however, they do make some of the most realistic looking heads in the business. They also have figured out how to "layer" silicone, in order to make more believable "skin". To fine them, just search "Real Doll". You may also remove this comment, if you find it offensive. In no way was I meaning for it to be that way....I'm 100% honest when I say that they make models that are eerily realistic. They will also do custom colors and designs. I know that a while back, they created an armature and body for someone else's humanoid robot, probably about 10 years ago, so the advancements have been leaps and bounds since that time. Thank you for sharing a fascinating video...I just wish that there was a 180 view of the head, so we could also see a profile, as well as a bit longer video....I really wanted to study the head for a longer period of time! This is really shocking to me, it really looks like a modern 3D character in real life. Like it looks like it has shaders and has been animated for as vide games character are. I mean of course there’s some work alike behind the scenes but man that really looks like a 2023 video game character just worm holled into our reality. Ameca is really the best, she looks AMAZING

The robot version one is soooo more convincing as it removes the flags triggered by our brain that make us hyper critical and noticing the uncanny valley. The robot version looks like a real robot that you would imagine.... and it is.
