The ignorance in this comment is sad. That information helps with what equipment to take and what type of rescue needs to be carried out and where the patients are and how well they are doing. These questions give a time frame, location and how to proceed safely without putting others in more danger. The response time on land is also a lot different to the response time in the water, theres no 911 with an address for boats if your there and you have an extra hand you give it wether your coast guard or not. I bet if you were on a rescue mission youd be asking some important questions too there buck-o, use your head. There were multiple people on that boat . One person on the radio, others helping the kayaker putting everyone at use. What was useful about your comment?
@johngraham8052
@johngraham8052 3 роки тому
I think the quality of the coastguard was very poor despite people defending him. The captain who rescued the Kayaker said that he was uncomfortable with the changing conditions, he was heading in and that the other kayaker was out of difficulty, but yet the coastguard stated to remain on the scene and keep eyes on the situation. The coastguard should not be compromising the safety of a vessel and crewe to act as a spotter. Someone needs retrained in my opinion (and I know nothing about boating), but common sense is common sense.
@wyleb2
@wyleb2 3 роки тому
One of the responsibilities of the CG radio operator is to 'maintain radio contact.' In practice this can mean asking the same questions over and over. There's kind of an unspoken expectation that if things are getting serious, you deal with the situation first, responding to the radio is secondary.

The civilian captain described the situation well enough to understand in layman’s terms the details over and over. It was painful to listen to him repeat himself constantly. From a former police officer, emergency highway first responder, gunner in Iraq, and current commercial pilot in training… all requiring professional radio communication. It sounded like coast guard dude’s first day on a radio. A lot of police dispatchers are the same way. You tell them an important piece of information and because they’re thinking of their next question instead of listening, they ask a question about the exact information you just gave them. I was once out fishing on a pier on Lake Michigan... and although its not an ocean, it is a giant body of water that can get extremely dangerous. There were two kayakers out there maybe a couple hundred yards from shore, when the water went from being absolutely calm and still the whole day, to 5-7 foot swells just in the blink of an eye. I've never seen the lake turn so quickly. Within minutes one kayaker capsized and went into the water and the other one was struggling. Someone on the pier called 911, but a person on a jet ski got to them and got them both to shore before the coast guard arrived. it was such a scary and helpless feeling watching and knowing you are completely helpless. Inexperienced people have no business going out into water like this or going too far out. Hats off to anyone who risks their life to help someone in distress

Watching from Big Sky Country! Montana.... jealous of your weather... the guy in the Cat just showing off, learned a lesson on that one! I dont think anything broke on the boat, but I have a feeling something did break on him... look at him driving back in... also, BIG Kudos to the guys in the Sea Ray for jumping in, calling for help and helping the kayaker in the water, also to the guys in the sport fish for lending a hand and helping! That's how we need to be, helping each other out when needed!
