Nicely explained 🙏🏾 They grow almost 12-15 inches in size and if you don't have that kind of space in your home avoiding keeping them as a pet. They require pond like area even a mini pond can suffice with some sand and stones for basking and laying eggs. People buy them thinking they are small in size but they grow and they grow big. Once they grow people abandoned them in local ponds and rivers.

I recently took over caring for my sons Red Slider. She is 10 yrs old. Your video was very helpful, answered so many questions. She is currently livin in my bathtub. I had to repurchase everything. You need a UVA UVB light bulb, not just regular one. And the red eared turtle slider needs air to breath but it also need a LOT MORE water to swim. You need a BIG aquarium with a BiG basking area. Also, feed your turtle in a different container so you can throw out the dirty water easily and keep the aquarium clean a lot longer

Hello. Found the video quite informative. However 2,3 things that I feel might be little incorrect: - a normal light bulb wouldn't provide the turtle UVB light that they need. - is the white area on the shell 'dry', or are they going to shed? - in the US, turtles below 4 INCHES are banned, not 4 YEARS.

Yeah and one more thing,a 100 watts light bulb is way too hot,turtles won't bask if it's too warm,get any type of heatlamp from 40-60 watts that will make it 30-40 celcius but I don't need these lamps,I have sunlight 😎

@@vardanrathi7777 Yes I agree it is a vector of salmonella. But also other reasons are that it is a catastrophe for Indian habitats. If you release it in the wild it acts as a vector for viruses and also eats all the native Indian turtle and fish species. Very strong and adaptable. It can cause an entire Indian aquatic ecosystem to collapse.. Please don't release it in the wild even if your turtle gets bigger. And please amplify the message to whoever owns this species. Thank you!!

Please mention terrapin hoome in your next video, it is basically an organisation and a rescue centre for turtles especially for red eared slider as they are generally released at their adult hood because of the size, and for Indian species of turtles

Very important and must watch video for those who want to keep red ear slider. I saw many people purchase this kind of turtle when it is baby and because its cute look. But after they grow up they can't handle them and not able to keep them properly and they leave them in local pond lake or well. Which is very bad. There is a lake near my city which has thousand of red ear sliders. Almost like ” kumbh ka mela" of this type of turtle. I guess most of those turtle abandoned by thier owner.

Turtles need 10x10 at least and keep in mind they need sunlight no light can replace sunlight(if anyone wants to keep turtle healthy focus on sunlight and water temperature the most)

I have a question. I am in the process of making an outdoor pond with filtration(and waterfall for moving water), fishes and plants (like lotus, water lily) for my garden. However I was wondering if it was safe to keep turtles in that pond as well? Ofcourse I will make a basking space and fence it, if there are turtles in it. But will the turtles be comfortable outside in an outdoor pond in NCR weather all year round?

Hi Mayur.. Can you suggest/recommend a good brand for UVB light + heat bulb setup for turtles in case we don't have option for direct sunlight? Most online websites in India have a bad quality or duplicate products and there is no way to verify if they are original bulbs.
