I just learned about this phone. I instantly got excited for some top tier camera action. Quickly found out how gimmicky this phone is. Sadly, Red decided to attach their brand to a mediocre camera product!

I mean, Marques even made a video explaining what Hydrogen One is. He was really hyped to see a phone from his favourite camera company, RED.

I'm sure that's what RED is planning for a v2. But for now, I'm sure they're focused on maximizing what can be done with the software on the phone and the modules that will make it a platform.

HTC EVO 3D also got the 3D holographic screen, I think its Gingerbread too, I had one and update it with Ice cream sandwich, it loses its 3D depth. I think Red might use an improve version of GIngerbread.

@@chuckycheeser No offence but which performance are You referring to when You claim that it's "5%" difference. I think the 845 beats the 835 by more than that in most "departments"... Though they perform the same regarding "native megapixel support" where they both reach 16Mp. But on the other hand the 835 is only capable of 30fps 4k Video, but the 845 can handle 60fps... So in that department the difference is 100%, not 5. But the general point is simply that You pay for a phone which at present basically only has two selling points, "cool looks" (if that style appeals to You) and ""status"" (i.e. it shows that You have enough money that You can spend this much on a "rather ordinary phone") . If none of that appeals to You You are better off buying another phone...And You will get more for Your money. Best regards.

Monster hunter series were the few major titles to fully support 3D, but pretty sure no one would turn it on after the first 10 minutes. 3D display wasn’t popular because it is very tiring to the eyes for any length of normal viewing sessions and it is especially harmful for children.

The prices for storage are also ridiculous!

Todays premium smartphones are better than yesteryears desktop workstations. Think about it, a 2k oled display, OS, internet and cellular, music games motion sensors gps maps camera. all in one and in the palm of your hand, its truly amazing when you really think about it. And it becomes outrageous when you consider all those things and more in a good $200 chinese smartphone.

From what I've heard is very similar. Overpriced and under spec phone. This should cost no more than $400. The worst part for me is the screen, which has to be extraordinary at that price level.

They really needed to step back from a lot of what they put it. It should've shipped with an amazing camera, not some after sale mod which will likely costs hundreds of dollars more. It sounds like they made a solid phone with good materials but the styling is far too aggressive in the same way anything "gamer" is styled. They fucked up big time with this. First gen should've been a basic, no frills device but did those basics very well so it should've been well made with a good screen, speakers and good camera like you'd expect from RED. Instead they decided that the camera wasn't as important so that can wait until 2019 meanwhile the product ships with a shitty gimmicky 3D screen when people stopped caring about 3D movies years ago.

@@mrcraggle my guess is that the Sony camera was a backup plan that even they didnt want to have to resort to. They likely couldnt keep the price point reasonable if they'd stuck to making the camera sensor themselves, so decided to release it anyway with the promise that what the phone interfaces with (whatever the pins attach to) would be worth it in the long run
