About the current bank situation, I'm really concerned. I am worried about a lot more if a bank the size of SVB may fail. I have a friend who manages a fast-growing startup and was severely impacted by the bank run. I have taken more than $840k out of my bank. Since the FDIC only provides coverage up to $250K, an implosion could have negative consequences. presently want to invest in the stock market. Does anyone have any ideas on how I might proceed?

We fail to realize that banks are commercial enterprises that are driven by greed as well. The over-leveraging of assets by banks starting in 2020 was one of the factors that led to SVB's collapse. I've never felt secure keeping a large sum of money in a bank. In other words, I invest through my financial advisor, reap the benefits, and then spend the money.

Every year and under the threat of violence, the Government steals 32% of the money earned from my work. Then they tax the food I eat, my health care, my property that I have somehow managed to purchase despite being taxed into oblivion by my city, county, state, and country. Still, the U.S. is 35 Trillion Dollars in debt. I don't and nobody should have an expectation that the FDIC will meet their obligations. We are becoming the Third World in real time.

And also the bank is protected from outstanding debts as the mortgage is attached to you personally not to the value of the home. In the 1980s, we had the savings and loans scandal, and the bank my father was banking with went under. The FDIC gave him all his money in a period of 3 years. They will not give it all at one time, they will extend it out.

You are correct. FDIC can cover less than one percent of total bank deposits, so if it's a big bank run, it'll be like, or worse than, the depression which happened before the FDIC was born. In fact, the FDIC could only cover 9% of the deposits of Wells Fargo Bank (only), let alone the deposits of the other 4,000+ banks in the U.S. This should make it clear why banks have to make sound loans. It's the loan portfolio that can sink a bank.

Which is why it's robbery the FDIC covered all deposits (many exceeding the 250k limit) when SVB Bank failed. They made sure the millionaires were taken care of even though that is not what the FDIC is designed to do.

Not only banks. But Government is in trouble financially. Most banks and Government were expecting interest rates to come back down by now. But haven't. Being inflation is still going up. Now loans that roll over are getting set to higher rates. Costing Government and business alot of money. Business all of a sudden can't make it work. Many people are in the same boat. Lease comes up on the cars. Now you're into a new more expensive payment. That's for individuals. And being so many people can work from home. There is not much need for office buildings anymore. All of a sudden, it was not needed. Alot of bad debt out there that not going to get paid back. Could cause interest rates to go even higher. That would really shut down the economy. Looks like a mess ahead. Stay out of debt. Could help one.

Great info, this is why I only keep a few thousand in the bank, I withdrew a substantial amount from my savings last year and was treated like an absolute criminal, and I’m in the UK, I’ve converted most of my FIAT currency into assets, wouldn’t trust a bank as far as I could throw it!! Oh, and by the way, in the UK, when you deposit currency into your bank account, it is no longer your “money”, you become an unsecured creditor ! , probably the same for you folks in US 🇺🇸

Banks don't lend deposits. They just credit/debit accounts when they make a loan. There's no such thing as "fractional reserve lending". Most banks have only operating cash on hand. If your bank fails then your account will be moved to a near by bank.

FDIC allowed all deposits exceeding 250k to be covered when SVB Bank closed. They would never do that for regular people and in my opinion, that was a misappropriation of funds bc that is NOT what FDCI is there for. They robbed the coffers and if more banks close, that means there is less money for everyone else!

I also want to add the FDIC spent 16B to cover SVB's losses. Some of those companies weren't even American, so those businesses basically received a bailout on the taxpayer dime. FDIC plans on recouping the 16B by assessing fees on banks which you know those fees will be passed on to customers.

Those parents may not have qualified for long-term care or may just hate the idea of giving up their homes. $121B in FDIC secured funds. The Trillions that he said are mostly unsecured 401k, mutual funds, money market accounts, those are not FDIC secured. If I were you guys, get out from all those unsecured funds. Buy a house, gold, treasury bills, etc.

It's interesting that all rich people think about is getting more money but I work a lot with homeless folks, and most of them would give up their next meal - even if they hadn't eaten all day - if they knew someone else was hungry. The rich may be rich in cash, but they are flat broke in character.

In '08 ADJUSTABLE MORTGAGES caused a crisis, in '24 it'll be ADJUSTABLE CREDIT CARDS 💳 The average credit card rate has risen to an all time high of 22%. One glaring example is the Macy's card has gone from 25% two years ago to a rate today of 34.49% YIKES!

How are credit unions affected by this? They don't appear to be playing as "fast and loose" as these banks. Plus, don't they function under a different criteria? I mean why wouldn't banks NOT keep the cushions they need if the regulatory agencies say they don't have to? Plus, they have no liability or accountability (other than walking away)🤷. If people don't recognize that they're being set up and preparing, they're going to be just like those Chinese people outside the banks a few years ago, crying and begging for their money. Even "Ray Charles" could see this coming. It's going to be a sad day for this nation. The banks have been given an assignment and they're going to carry it out.

I would say most credit unions are not affected because of how conservative they lend out the money from their members. It’s easy to get approved by a bank on a higher rate than a x credit union. Also they do have stricter limits on withdrawals/transfers etc and last but not least they don’t have to give profits out to shareholders instead they just reinvest internally. Any credit union is better than x or y big bank.
