Galaxy S10 is GOAT Samsung. Full screen design, three camera setup, expandable storage, headphone jack, fingerprint sensor under screen, edge display. Just doesn’t get any better.

The reason you felt Samsung play safe on S20 - 22 was because around the time they tried foldable phone. They needed to play safe on their flagship as they were going crazy with new form factor.

01:33 I'm a Korean. Fun Fact, Externally, the 'S' may stand for "Super Smart," but originally, it wasn't so grand. The 'S' in Galaxy S stands for the first letter of "SK telecom." In South Korea, there are three major Carrier : KT, LG U+, and SK telecom. When the Galaxy was first released, it came out exclusively with SK telecom (SKT), hence the name Galaxy S. There are also models like Galaxy K (SHW-M130K) and Galaxy U (SHW-M130L). If Galaxy had been released exclusively with Verizon in the United States, it would likely have been named Galaxy V. haha.

I agree with you, the last Samsung Galaxy S with both headphone jack and microSD card slot, plus still has a lot of the modern features like full front screen (almost). In fact it's my main phone to this day. My biggest gripe is the sides of the phone curving over the edge. Almost wish I got the S10e with the flat screen with no curves. I get a lot of missed inputs that can be frustrating at times because the screen simply won't respond because some of my fingers are 'bleeding' over the edges and touching the screen. The curved screen may have been popular for looking cool, but functionally it was annoying. Many people agree including Marques himself.

Man I loved my S10, esp when I was using the iris scanner to unlock the phone when I was wearing gloves at work. But I was swayed by the trade in offer (and dying battery) to an S21 U, which I also really liked, especially since it had S Pen functionality. They gave me a free upgrade in internal storage too, which I accepted and turns out that tbh I didn't need an SD card anymore since there was so much internal storage (for me anyways) that I could ditch the SD card and not have to worry about it possibly dying on me, and having to move apps back and forth. Now on an S23U cause I thought battery would die in the S21U in 2 years like it did for the S10, but it surprisingly didn't, so gonna wait for longer than my 2 year cyclic upgrade routine since the S4 (that, and the built in stylus was better than clipping the pen on the side). I still missed my iris scanner though, especially during covid with masks.

You missed some really important stuff regarding the S5 IMO. S5 was IP67 WITH a removable back cover (i went snorkeling with it, filming underwater). It also had the option to preserve this AND add wireless charging. Samsung provided replaceable back covers, one of which added a coil connecting to predefined pins on the back of the phone. Thus the S5 was the first wireless charging phone in the S series, not the S6. I had that exact setup, awesome times. The S4 could sense your fingers from 1 inch away off the screen, it had animations on the lockscreen and other preview features in the software which eventually landed on the Note with the S pen. It also had a high sensitivity toggle which allowed you to wear any gloves and still use the touchscreen. The S3 launched with the "S Beam" which, provided you would tap the back of two phones, would make a transfer of the selected files/links/apps, similar to what Apple introduced with the iOS17 update. My S7 Edge is a true hero, it is still being used as the main phone from 2016, marking its 8 years anniversary. Its only downfall (aside from the battery and the lack of software updates) is the AMOLED screen which burnt in eventually. Fingerprint sensor works like new, camera looks fine, great piece of technology.

The first wireless charging phone in the S series was not S5, but S3 - it also had 2 pins exposed and you had to buy a back cover with Qi coil. It wasn't the first mainstream phone to have Qi charging though - Nokia Lumias were ahead of Samsung with this, and IIRC the Qi was ready-to-use there with no fiddling or paying extra.

Everytime I'm about to do it I remind my self how I use this device daily (smaller hands) and I can't part ways with my S10, after 4 years it's just been sooo good as entire package. No more updates means I may have to switch due to security purposes but hoddang do I like this phones design\size\features\quality. S10 and iPhone5se are by far the best 2 phones I ever owned and every year I get the hype bite and postpone long enough to be logical. But all good things come to an end at some point ...when and what to get next....

I used the s10 since lauchr up to like half an year ago ehen i got s23, such an amazing phone, the only problem i had was the battery, had to change it a couple of times and it was still pretty short. Other than that best phone experience i ever had.

you will miss the headphone jack I'm very sure of that. not Samsung, but I switched from a Pixel 4a 5g to a Pixel 5 and the fact that there's now a somewhat flimsy dongle attached to my earbuds is ever so slightly annoying.

s9+ was my first samsung and i loved it. The finger print sensor on the back worked so good and was very conveinent. Not much that you didnt need or seemed overkill. headphone jack if you wanted. The notification/status light was super useful. thats the number one thing I wish theeywould bring back

You forgot to mention the ir blaster that the s5's had! Awesome feature that I wish they kept around. You could easily control your tv or any other device that used an ir remote such as your air conditioner or heater. No need to go through bluetooth.

I remember when the first Galaxy S phones came out and every carrier had their own variant. I was jealous of the one with the keyboard at Sprint(?) I think.

As a fan of the Samsung Galaxy S lineup (tablets and phones), I enjoyed this overview of their Galaxy S lineup. Started with the Galaxy note 2 currently using the S24 Ultra.

Think there's a few inaccuracies here, like the variable aperture didnt go away after it was on the S9, it was on the S10 also, it went away from the S20. Also the heart rate checking stuck around for quite a few more generations. There was also the S9+ which had two cameras, so the S10 didnt just jump from one camera on the back to three if that makes sense.

And Exynos and Snapdragon at the same time didnt start from S8. It was like that starting from original Galaxy S. For example Galaxy S4 could have Exynos 5410, Snap 600, Snap 800 depending on region. Snap 800 allowed for 4K in original camera app via simple mod too, others didnt.

@@bradlewis4529 true, Sansung used Exynos only on S6 because Snapdragon 810 was very bad chip.

I totally agree with the S9 review, what a solid phone. I still have it as my backup and love it more than the S23. It shows its age, OLED screen has now washed out colors and it's a bit slower than right out of the box, but man what a phone, it had everything and still felt perfect in your hand.

12:49 I love seeing the band-aid because that's what I've *always* thought the S5 looked like, ever since I first saw it unvailed back then until now. I can't look at it and not think of a band-aid.

Hated that band-aid back panel on the S5. Thought it looked really cheap compared with that metal-like finish LG was using at the time in the G3.

Honestly, it's so interesting to see S1's and S2's having SO MANY different carrier-exclusive designs. (For eg. S1 and S2 also had designs with 2-capacitive-and-one-home-buttons layout just like your S3) Then S3-5 had no design difference on vanilla models while keeping some byproducts (mini, neo, active...) and those eventually got abandoned from S8 era - only mainstream models since then Also: 28:50, actually the 1st Galaxy S with multi camera is S9 Plus... That's a even a big step to vanilla S9's dual aperture as you now have another telephoto cam. And for S10, beside vanilla/Plus/e/5G, there is one even weirdo called S10 Lite, with a design more like S20 series and earphone jack deleted for some reason.
