Damn, this ended up being a long comment. 6 years later and this is still the best solution I could find for the bushy tailed rats getting into my attic. I trimmed what branches I could, covered the holes they got in with wood first and then metal plates, used moth balls, pepper spray, ultra sonics, any damn thing I could find to try and in the end I just needed to wrap the tree a few times with some aluminum flashing. The tree is coming down whenever the hell the HOA gets around to it but in the meantime $30 finally got me some damn peace and quiet, especially when we're under a stay at home order. So far this is one of the best method I have rats coming from a tree and it reaches the roof. So I said to myself either put a long piece of metal (steel) and nail it on the tree or cut the tree off so I chopped the tree.

The rolling credits made it that much better.

This would work for rats too. My great aunt used to cover the wrap with engine oil. (not environmentally kind) Maybe Vaseline or petroleum jelly would suffice ...just a thought 🤔

Good job with the bird feeder protection. Squirrels are very stubborn though when it comes to getting food setup for the birds. That squirrel did not want to give up easily.

we have pecan trees in our huge yard, one tree (our star performer for the last few years) produces lots of really huge pecans, surprising since its pretty small, this years a couple of rogue bushy tail desperadoes moved nearby, those two have decimated our tree only a couple pecans remain as of yesterday, the shield will not work because the tree is small, I put a fake owl next to the tree looking in the direction where I noticed they are coming and leaving when I chase them off, if that doesn't work I will pull out my .22 rifle next, does anyone know any good squirrel recipes?

The absolute best deterrent for squirrels is a .22 rifle, the second best is high powered air rifle but there are many people who incorrectly believe no animal should be killed thus the third best deterrent and one squirrels never overcome is an non-fatal electric fence, like farmers use to contain livestock. Put a metal plate, strip, bar or whatever with a layer of something insulated from the feeder metal support pole (or other ground source) and attach the hot wire from the "controller" to the metal plate (or whatever you used), that's it. The pole creates the circuit by grounding when a squirrel (cat, raccoon, possum) touches the plate getting a quick short shock. Birds rarely ever are in position to complete the circuit so there is little risk to them and the shock is only unpleasant but not fatal. These are available from Lowes, Home Depot, garden stores, and farm stores and likely from Amazon and powered by AC or battery or solar.

Your protected from the squirrels to to crawl up the tree so I would add another piece of aluminum sheeting above the feeder. This when they try to crawl down from the top of tree you will be protected that way also

would this work for a avocado tree too? Last year either rats or possums would bite into each unripe avocado leaving their fang marks. They bit every single avocado on my tree. My new fruit are just starting to get big enough for them to come back and do the same thing. Its either rats, squirrels, or possums. It's something likes to fang at night. Never see anything in the tree during the day.

Almost all telephone poles have this kind of flashing to detour squirrels from climbing them. I don't know how long they've been doing it, but almost all the poles along the highways have them. Can't figure out why they put them in treeless areas though 🤔 Never seen squirrels where there isn't a tree. Could be also to prevent raccoons though and those pesky pole climbing deer😐

When I google camo straps it comes back with "ratchet tie downs". Is that what these are or are they crimped together like pallet straps?

I'm going to try and do this because there is no way I'm chopping down my trees. My problem is more with stray cats climbing my trees and killing every bird that has a nest up in my trees. They are so annoying! At night it's pure meowing and fighting with other cats and poop in my garden where I plant all my fruit and vegetables. I never knew how destructive and super annoying they can be. 😧

If you're having a problem with squirrels all you need to do is put cayenne pepper and Hot Chili Pepper into the bird feeder it will not harm the birds the squirrels and all of their unwanted Critters don't like it because it's too hot and spicy where them to eat it and they'll leave your bird feeder alone

First let me say that I hate squirrels, they're destructive, and a really big annoyance, not to mention being gluttons. 1 cup of Black Sunflower seeds would feed so many different varieties of birds, yet one fat, pig of a squirrel will sit there and eat everyone of them until they're gone. What I really dislike is when they chew on and partially deform your expensive Bird Feeders. This looks like a nice set-up, but the only problem is that unless you move this every few months or so, the tree will start growing around the straps and you won't be able to move the feeder from tree to tree. Once you loosen the straps, it's probably not as effective. I would love to pick off the squirrels in my front yard with a Pellet Gun or Rifle, but there's just too many car and house windows to consider and it's not worth the risk.

Whoever said animals don't have reasoning skills have never watched a squirrel try to get to food. And if my feeder goes empty which it does quite often because birds are flying pigs. (thus pigs can fly) There are scout birds that position themselves to keep an eye on a feeding place. I've forgotten to get a bag of seed sometimes. Maybe two days later I would get a scoop, well a gallon jug scoop of seeds. And the second I start to pour the seed in the feeder I can hear bird feeder narcs singing in a tree 50 yards away. Friggin birds are amazing. I used to be like everyone that doesn't think much of birds except the fly. And that's an irrational way to think. Because they have actually become something that flies. Without schools or books or engineer degrees. Way before humans existed. Not to mention somewhere along the line bugs that fly have done the same thing....evolved to fly. Bird brains dumb as a bug are merely human jealousy I'm guessing. Never take advice from a human. They are merely offenders of intelligence. Animals created humans through their combined thought. And all the things animals can do like fly and run faster were created the same way. Not some accident of nature but their thought created all those miraculous things that humans have endured to follow while qualming that animals aren't intelligent.

Way too long and boring. Squirrels are pests so I have no problem with them being hurled off a bird feeder. I'd like to hurl them out of my garden box. I just don't want to sit through a too long video to see it happen.
