Lex, could you ask Robin this: What about interaction effects? Essential aspect of any multivariate statistical model. Interaction between the unlikely successes of advanced life that have proceeded the 6 hard steps and the potentially estimable probability that the grabbiest can alter the rate of advancement of the quieter ones. Could that explain how lucky we’ve been with our rate of progress through our six hard steps? (ceteris paribus - necessary precipitating conditions like Goldilocks zone, rocky planets with ample water and atmospheres etc.)

The Grabby aliens are already here. They have infiltrated the power structures. Their are bases in the oceans and mountains. All one has to do is look at the governments. Even our own government state that Put in is a clone. We alrwady have cofirmation in the existence of the galactic federation...a power structure conglomerate that dominates the universe. So why are we still speaking like none of this exists? Listen to our military leaders throughout the world. It is here.

I was banned with extreme prejudice for mentioning the relevant facts about the ET situation just in the comments. No name calling, just the facts and even in the comments this was very much not welcome.

If aliens were advanced enough to travel here, they would be advanced enough to never let us see them. They would also never even need to enter our atmosphere to accomplish any goal of theirs. We went from caveman to spaceship in 50,000 years. If a species is even 10 million years more advanced than us, that's 200 of those leaps. We can't even imagine how advanced they would be. They could do anything they needed to do with nano robots or other things we would never see. Area 51 was to fake aliens to control the people, if necessary.

This CD has three separate relaxation/meditation sessions on it ukposts.infoUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq guided by a very pleasant and direct male voice. Unlike so many other products of its type, this CD does not have bad synthesizer music, does not feature a phony or affected style of narration, and does not make any bogus claims to be subliminal or to re-train the brain or any of that balderdash. What you get is 1. a guided meditation for getting into a pleasantly relaxed state of body awareness while taking a stroll (superb for those easing back into a fitness routine slowly after an illness or injury) 2. A nice long breath-awareness relaxation session that if followed diligently can put you into very deep states of full-body relaxation and mental calmness, and 3. a buddhist-inspired meditation session designed to help you develop and maintain feelings of loving kindness toward not just yourself and your friends, but toward people you don't even like. The CD makes no claims to be designed for advanced meditators or for buddhists or hindus/yoga practitioners looking for very deep and esoteric stuff. It is geared more toward the average person who just wants to develop the habit of relaxation and stress relief through natural, healthy means. him, if you happen to be reading this, keep up the good work fella, and I love your accent. I would also like to note that I have never fallen asleep while listening to this product. I would like to kindly suggest to the reviewer who said this CD makes him fall asleep, that he might want to get checked to see if he has a sleep disorder, or if he is simply not setting aside ample time for restful sleep at night. A healthy person getting adequate rest at night should be able to go into deep states of mental relaxation without dozing off, if not all the time, then most of the time.

I love your comment. My fascination for this topic is both wide, personal, and very frustrated. I wished the main-stream media could simply change the darned subject and address the most amazing news mankind has ever been told, "UFO's are real, hence aliens are real! We are not alone! How do we fundamentally alter our very perception of the universe and reality? Where does God fall in this new spectrum, are angels really aliens?" The topics; endless. The hope and excitement; boundless. But our society simply refuses to pull its head out of the sand. Instead we continue down a path that inevitably leads to despotism, hatred, and destruction. Very sad.

It seems Hansen is consolidating his grabby aliens notion with some of his other very considered speculation about the future and human nature. Robin Hansen always seems remarkably generous with his time in talks like this, usually for discussing his novel ideas. It's always a treat to 'meet', 'see', and actually 'hear' the voice of the person who writes the books and generates these notions, but this interview was especially interesting because I feel I got a clearer glimpse of this interesting person and his motivations. He seems to be those things he surmises his own obscured inner self wants to be; outstanding, praiseworthy, capable of surprising insights (and analogies), and an intellectual risk taker. Aware of his own unusual intelligence but also modest somehow. A sparkling conversationalist and fun to listen to. Thanks Robert and Lex.

Time is relative. Not just our perceptions of it. But I can’t help but feel like 4 hours past in a matter of minutes, and it’s going to feel like 4 decades before Robin comes back for round 2. As my impatient niece would say “Make it happen Captain”. Lex, that episode was pure gold, both physically and digitally. Any chance you could bring someone on the discuss the concept of time? Perhaps Julian Barbour?

Robin Hanson is probably one of the most brilliant guests the show has had in a while! And that's saying something given how many obscenely brilliant guests come on this show - it's the dexterity and multifaceted intelligence for me - spanning multiple knowledge domains and disciplines! He could probably go back to grad school for physics and have a ball of it lol Then watch out world! lol

He was dropping bombs every 2-3 minutes. How many times I thought to myself "shit, the guy is right". I love that slow thinkers, who build their ideas one stone on another, solid, robust. They reach places where others could not. Not because the didn't have the knowledge but since they didn't have the patience. And then the result is surprise. I would love to have hours long chat with him.

@@pathologicallyfriendly Then he should know that doing something "on purpose" refers to intent and not motive. This is why in a court of law, for example, if you steal money, they are only concerned with your intent to do it. Your motive, what was your gain from the theft: whether you wanted to use the money to buy drugs, or help your grandma is usually not relevant. (Unless your motive was to save a life, which is super rare).

Thank you for bringing intellectual discussion to the masses. We are starving for real contemplation. Is it possible that your instinct is to project alien interest would/is in our AI systems because that is your primary focus? My focus is plant life. The absolute brilliance of what is quietly happening all around us, is awe inspiring. Alien intelligence could in fact be observing us everywhere through plant life. There is an unbounded opportunity to integrate advanced systems within plant and fungal life to create massive planetary and inter planetary advancement. I believe that is the direction that will create our next giant leap forward.

I want to offer a little constructive criticism in a gesture of good faith. If you want to challenge someone on an idea that they have likely been thinking deeply on for years. Whatever you might come up with on the spot is likely not how this opportunity could be best served. If you have taken the time to study in advance and you still feel like its a worthy challenge by all means, otherwise seek to probe, they are itching to tell you more and i would love to hear it. with love!
