ROLLING THUNDER REVUE: A BOB DYLAN STORY BY MARTIN SCORSESE captures the troubled spirit of America in 1975, and the joyous music that Bob Dylan performed that fall. Master filmmaker Martin Scorsese creates a one-of-a-kind movie experience: part documentary, part concert film, part fever dream. Featuring Joan Baez, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, Sam Shepard, Allen Ginsberg, and Bob Dylan giving his first on-camera interview in over a decade. The film goes beyond mere reclamation of Dylan’s extraordinary music-it’s a roadmap into the wild country of artistic self-reinvention.

November, 1975. Sitting in the editorial office of The Justice, the student newspaper at Brandeis University. A call comes in: Dylan playing the Shapiro Gymnasium (yes, at Brandeis, even the gym has a Jewish name). What a show it was: Dylan, Baez, Ramblin' Jack, Allen Ginsburg, others. Looking very much forward to reliving the concert and the tour. Thanks, Netflix. Thanks, Marty. Thanks, Mr. Zimmerman.

Saw this, dropped everything I had planned this morning, sat back and watched. Excellent! As always Dylan doesn't have much to say. The film footage of this rolling entourage though is awesome and tells a LOT. From roots to encore, from a historical perspective that spans folk music being created right in front of you, to civil rights and President Carter, Dylan at that time provided a voice and message that no one else could match. His vision of Rolling Thunder will now be preserved, as it should. Definitely worth a couple of hours of your time.
@FeatheryBird
@FeatheryBird 4 роки тому
I was a child prodigy folk musician in the Village back in 75, and I was plucked up off the street by some of the musicians and invited to jam and sing. I was 17. There was chatter about me being a third background singer. Then, someone I knew entered the room, someone who had used me as a child. Thanks to them I did not get invited back to the formal rehearsal. They auditioned a few other unknown kids and they did hire the fiddle player who was 16 at the time. That's how close I came to being on Rolling Thunder and having a career. One of the musicians is wearing a shirt I custom made, as I was also a multi media artist in general, but my singing voice and guitar playing were spectacular. It's so strange how one goes on to glory and another just fades away unloved. After a while I just couldn't formulate the relationships anymore, I didn't do the drugs and the drinking or have random realtionships and so wasn't very much "fun". I was a very serious introverted naive type of person who just wanted to sing.

No, Dave O, he doesn't. Love Springsteen and agree he gives his fans their money's worth and then some. But he doesn't come close to Dylan's 'Never Ending Tour'.

I subscribed to netflix again a couple of weeks ago, and found myself in a documentary spree; I’ve watched this one, the one where Bob Weir of The Grateful dead tells about his life, the one with Keith Richards (Under The Influence), some nature documentaries and a Vietnam doc, all exellent and will remember them for a long time

I hope Roger McGuinn's in this a bunch. He really loved the time on this tour and it led to his Cardiff Rose album with Mick Ronson. That said he is likely to be overlooked as usual.

I think that’s him @2:06, he was definitely a part of the tour once they got into bigger venues, I know he was in the Hard Rain tv performance

@@albertandrews130 When it comes to Eight Miles High they say what a great song writer Gene Clark was which he was in spades or like how Chestnut Mare really shows how awesome Clarence White was which it does. That McGuinn was a good interpreter of Dylan but not much of a songwriter. Little credit goes to McGuinn for Sweetheart of the Rodeo either. With all the pioneering innovations he was an integral part of I think he is right at the top with the all time greats. Furthermore his back catalog is more diverse than anyone I can think of, there are hours of amazing music with his name is on it. I think Tom Petty agreed.
