I'm sure all of these upgrades are fine (and expensive) but, speaking as a 10/22 owner, the rifle is absolutely fine without any of these mods.

Upgrade your 10/22 by replacing virtually everything that Ruger installed on the rifle! Spend your money on some good quality .22lr ammo to see just how good a stock 10/22 can be. I loved the part where you installed the left side charging handle and scope rail, then immediately after suggested installing ANOTHER CHARGING HANDLE!

exactly at this point you might as well just build a whole gun... These parts from their website is $623 before tax and shipping plus $300ish for a 10/22 carbine. I have built highspeed comp 10/22s minus the optic for less than $900 before with bull barrels or counter weighted barrels. Not saying these parts aren't good or arent competitive with other stuff like VQ or Kidd just if you are going to replace 2/3s of the rifle with preimum stuff just start from the ground up. A stock, Barrel, and receiver (which can have an intergal picatiny) can be had for $300-400. What I like to do with stock 10/22s is minimalist upgrades. a mini-14 butt pad for some grip and LOP. A cheap picatinny. A machined and counter sunk bedding bushing. a no droop vblock. some A2 tool steel bolt upgrades and a trigger/seer kit and a trigger with adjustable over travel. $100-150 max. then a cheap tasco scope and you are good to go.

The upgrades I installed on the 10/22 I bought in 76 are a scope (scope rings came with the rifle), and a sling. With the money I saved by not adding other upgrades, I used on ammo. The upgrades I installed on the 10/22 Takedown I bought about 8 yrs. ago was the Magpul Backpacker Stock and a scope. The aftermarket stock was strictly due to convenience when transporting the rifle and it had storage for extra magazines.

You have 5 plain jain 10/22’s? Put a scope and bipod one.. that’s not cosmetic they serve a purpose. Bull barrels another great upgrade they really improve accuracy. I understand not caring about cosmetic stuff but there is a lot of great upgrades that improve your shooting.
@bl4558
@bl4558 6 місяців тому
Why do you need 5 stock iron sighted 10/22s? I am down to two 10/22s from about the same number you state. Every one was setup differently. Now I have my full tack driver built on the receiver my Dad got me when I was 12. That one is a Volquartsen barrel/trigger setup with a basic Hogue overmolded stock with some Power Custom titanium bits as well. Same build from 1996 as it hits like a dream. It is a target gun set up for clearing the bullseye at 100 yards. Too heavy for hunting or shooting without a rest. That isn't it's purpose. The other is set up with a stock barrel, Volquartsen trigger group and a Hogue overmolded adult sized stock. That's the one for dropping rabbits at TEOTWAWKI. If you shot either of mine you would forever think yours feel crude and clunky.

i have 5 of them, one original from the 60s, one "dressed" up to resemble a m1 carbine, one with plastic folding stock "tactical", one hand assembled all after market heavy barrel, big scope, etc, and one that i got at a garage sale for super cheap as it was VERY rusty. i cleaned it up and sprayed it flat black with plastic stock with a metal wire butt that folds to the left. my favorite by far is the garage sale POS! it shoots just fine and can bounce around on the tractor or whatever and i dont care in the least if it gets scratched or whatever. it just keeps working.

I bought a used Sporter model (wood stock with no barrel band) in the early 90s. It had what I called a "lawyer trigger"; long gritty pull that must have been ten pounds and had a spongy let-off. 'Not sure how that thing got out of the factory like that, but a Kidd trigger transformed it into a satisfying tack driver with what seems like a 2 1/2 pound pull.

Sounds like a nice rifle. The Volquartsen stuff is hard to beat. Everyone touting their stock rifles as just as good are clueless. Their stock guns might be 'good enough' but not 'as good' by a long shot. And that's only 'good enough' to meet their criteria. My expectations are much higher than what a stock 10/22 can achieve and my custom 10/22s are up to the task quite handily.

The pins... hell yeah on those. The rail & southpaw side charging handle... hell yeah. I'm a southpaw shooter and prefer to use my left hand for charging. The bolt & extended charging handle... hell yeah on the bolt, but I'd have no need for extending the charging handle. The trigger group and extended mag & bolt releases. Hell yeah on the trigger, but I'd pass on the two releases. They look like it would be too easy to accidentally release the magazine. Okay, maybe I'd do the bolt release. One device I'm strongly considering trying is an adjustable muzzle weight to help tune the barrel to the ammo I'd be using.

It's nice you're marketing the pins, but changing my bolt stop pin from metal to nylon is the upgrade people should be going for. Just buy cheap quarter-inch nylon bolts and cut them down to size. Keep a few of them and if they break or get lost it's no big deal. Recoil reduction is great but the noise reduction is the real winner: the bolt clicks instead of clacks. It also prevents the holes from getting bored-out by a metal pin that keeps getting slammed by the bolt. Nylon will break before it deforms the holes in the frame (unlike metal pins, which people complain about for this reason). I've put around 2000 rounds through mine with the nylon pin and never had an issue.

Unpopular opinion... but why get the "best" 22 and then go replace everything besides the receiver? I have shot 80's 10/22 that were never handled with white gloves. Maybe cleaned once every 1000 rounds, no fancy parts still runs like a sewing machine. Just saying if it isn't broken don't "fix" it.
@AtlasJotun
@AtlasJotun 9 місяців тому
I don't think any of these parts are aimed at reliability save the bolt; the rest are all ergonomic changes. These shiny bits seem more a case of "Whatever floats your boat" rather than "If ain't broke, don't fix it". Firearms have always been built to purpose, and many people buy the Ruger over its competitors specifically because it has the broadest aftermarket support, allowing them to easily assemble a specific configuration that may not otherwise be available. Much the same story with guns like Glocks and AR-15 variants. This is also an advert from a company that sells the stuff featured, so all the modifications are effectively a demonstration of their catalog's potential uses. People who prefer to maintain the firing grip at all times might favor that left-side charging handle, for instance. As a southpaw, the rotary safety would indeed be an upgrade for me. As well, Ruger's OE fire control pins like to grow legs, so the anti-walk versions would be a quality-of-life upgrade for folks who regularly service their plinkers. There are also a fair few who want top-of-the-line triggers for every gun they own, including the range toys.

I started modding my 10/22s back in the '90's. To everyone who says "my stock 10/22 from 1968 shoots just as good". No. No it doesn't. This is what you tell yourself... but it's a big honkin' LIE. I have seen stock 10/22 trigger pulls exceed 8 lbs. Most come in around the 5lb. mark. 2-3 lbs. is better. Can't argue that fact. And the trigger feel of a Volquartsen setup is DEVINE. You die-hards can keep that chunky stock trigger. I couldn't care less. You do you. I'll be driving tacks. For the record... that left handed charging handle/optics base looks like trash. The only need would be tactical and that's what ARs are for. The open spring and guide rod are kinda exposed to dirt and water. I have never handled one do to the gimmick aspect... but the linkage can't be an improvement to feel. Do your trigger first and then the barrel and stock. Leave the spaceman gimmicks to the kids. Mounting the scope to the receiver is a newbie mistake. Get the Volquartsen barrel mount and a Volquartsen barrel. Or have the barrel of your choice tapped for that Volquartsen mount. I have done it both ways. A stock 10/22 feels primitive. Mine feel like the fine well sorted weapons they are.

I like my 10/22 now that I fixed the several issues with it. The main couple of issues prevented the rifle to hit the broad side if a barn from the inside! The first issue I found was that the synthetic stock was warped are pressing on the barrel throwing windage off so far my scope only had enough range to correct for about half of the error at 25 yards!!! To fix this I shaved down the saddle area of the stock free floated the barrel. I also bedded the stock. But this did not correct the elevation error. Again, it was so bad I was shooting decent groups at 25 yards but ran out of scope range and was still about 5 inches low. That turned out to be the top of the upper receiver had a hump cast into the front under the mounting rail. I then re-centered the optic and and sanded down the hump until the elevation was essentially centered at 50 yards. This kinda grouped the rifle but I wasn’t getting the consistency I should. Turns out it was the ammo. Winchester was simply bad. Federal a killer better. CC 40 grain mini mag Varmint is the deal. The rifle now shoots the way I want it to. But now I have several thousand Winchester and Federal bulk boxes I need to find a use for. I really don’t like no having s pull to release bolt. I fixed that. And I don’t like not have a last round hold open. I haven’t dealt with that yet. My particular rifle was completely unusable junk out of the box new. BTW, it came with the scope I was using mounted from the factory. Some of you would have figured all of these issues out. Most would not. It is hard to believe that this is the same company that made my Ruger American. I spent many years away from .22. Has anybody else noticed how bad .22 ammo is that isn’t CCI?

Personally, dropping what comes out to about 617$ before S/H and tax on a gun that I spent 400$ on just isn't my kind of move. But if you have the capital and you really want that level of performance, go for it, ain't gonna knock it.

I have one of the very first 10/22’s, it has a factory blade front sight, is it possible to get the sight taken down and thread it for a suppressor? Or should I just buy a new barrel that is already threaded? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thank you, JHK
@TANDEMKROSS
@TANDEMKROSS Рік тому
Hi! You could totally get it threaded, but personally I would get an aftermarket barrel with thread to preserve the integrity of the old one and just swap it out! You'd likely be saving money with a new barrel too.

The only upgrade the 10/22 needs is a better extractor in my mind. After probably in the realm of 30k things that was the only thing that was truly worn and causing problems.

I still have the carbine I got for my 14th birthday it was used when I bought it and I put around 20-30k in it and was getting light primer strikes by the time I was in my early 20s. I did a rebuild kit on the bolt new firing pin and extractor and it functioned like it did the day I bought it.

Even though I have been retired for a few years, if I can't hit the target with the original sights that came on my 10/22, I don't have any business shooting it. If I am going to change the trigger, a Franklin Armory Binary Trigger is going in it. I have one or two 50 round drums and a 110 round drum from Germany. Be safe my friends.

You missed the 1st upgrade which makes the gun shoot smoother, quieter and more accurately (according 4-5 vloggers and writers). And the company you're peddling, Tandemkross sells them. Polymer bolt buffers. Might want to read; Customize the Ruger 10/22 Paperback - July 20, 2006 by James E. House. It's a classic

Charge the rifle while keeping your finger on the trigger?? Also you have to remove the rotary safety handles before you can remove the barreled action from stock. Fine if you're at home on a table, but not so good if you're in the field.

Not really 'gunsmithing'. An average man from 1995 could do all the work. Wait. I get it. The modern manbunners would need to have the work farmed out to a Gunsmith. You are right. I am from a time where men were men and owned tools, a work space and had the skills to utilize that space. They took pride in doing instead of just buying. That Tactical you have still has the clunky stock trigger group. And it is really only a cosmetic 'upgrade' from a basic rifle. I am always amused with tactical 22s. Is that for when the rabbits revolt and start a jihad? My 'tactical' stuff is all way more powerful than 22lr.
