In this video series I am playing various Submissions of the Dungeoncrawler Gamejam 2024. For Definitions about what a Dungeon Crawler and what a Game Jam is, check the pilot episode. All Games have been created within just 9 days during the DungeonCrawler Game Jam hosted by dungeoncrawlers.org / @zooperdan
My Intention is to present the games while also giving genuine, unfiltered feedback to the developers. These are my personal opinions which are neither representing the whole page nor community.

Hey! First I want to give a big thanks for choosing Ruined to be one of the games you've chosen to make a video walkthrough of! I appreciate much of the constructive criticism! I don't want to leave just a comment of thanks so I'll just put out a few points: -Definitely one of the biggest issues was leaving god mode on, that was a huge misstep in my rush to export (normally you just respawn at the last healing pyramid). The music not looping as well, since I changed the bgm on the last day and forgot Godot sets the loop setting on import rather then when you play it. -I also found that most of the games I myself tried out used, Q/E for turning if they had it, it might be a changing tide for those controls! (Or my sample size is too small) -The enemy respawn mechanic definitely needs to be tweaked/changed, 20 sounds like a lot of turns/moves, but as seen by others, it's really not! -And you're not the only one who got lost with finding the doors, so I have a mechanic I can implement later to make them more recognizable. -The tile overlay was a cool addition you have! I was having trouble making the fov look good without crazy distortion in a widescreen game. It looks like LoG lowers that camera closer to the ground and puts the horizon further up the screen, which isn't something I thought of! Going forward I plan to do more in way of UI, sfx, and level design that helps show direction, as well as utilizing the points above. I'd like to participate again next year, so I want to take your whole video into consideration! Thank you again, and not only for my game but for taking the time to do as many as you have! It's really cool of you!

Hey there! Thanks for the detailed comment! :) Ideally you would have customizable controls or a a few layouts you can swap in between. (E.g. Lefthanded Jam Organizer prefers to play with Numpad), ofc having proper options for that is a bit complicated in a jam, but one thing which could be doable is to have the settings in an ini. But yeah Q and E is the norm for turning. You can also look at screenshots of old games like Lands of Lore and see how the movement buttons you can click via the cursor are basically "replicated" on the keyboard (just that back then WASD wasnt a thing). Yeah, Grimrock tilts the camera a bit towards the bottom (having the horizon higher up), so do some of the old games witht heir "fake 3D" perspective, like Lands of Lore, but generally the perspective is always a combination of a lot of different things :) In any case, thanks a lot for sending in the game, and I am looking forward to your game in the next jam! :)

@@KordanorsGamingSessions I actually did have the numpad controls in there with the style you are more used to! The arrow keys as well have left and right for turning, but you are correct, customizable controls is 100% the best way to do it. With more UI, I could either have it be fully customizable or swap methods!
