#JordanPeterson, a 2 hour, challenging and tearful conversation about unity, responsibility, compassion and teaching on my podcast Under The Skin. This is only the first hour, if you'd like to listen to the rest of our conversation just download Luminary here, it's worth it: luminary.link/russell
Jordan Peterson returns for a third time on Under the Skin, but this one is much different than the others. For those who are new to Jordan, he is a professor of psychology and clinical psychologist. He is author of 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos and his latest book Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life is out now.

Try not to ramble and use too much word salad Russel. He will know. Have a point and get to it. Try not to say “so what you are saying is”. Try saying “so what I think you are saying is”. @waynepolo6193
@waynepolo6193 2 роки тому
I think if you notice, it’s not so much that Jordan and Russell are themselves profound; it’s that they’re interested in what _is_ profound. It’s the profundity of the human experience that they endeavor to draw out from every person and every experience that crosses their life’s path. **And then,** they try to get everyone else to see it, too. They’re enamored by what it means to be alive; even when it terrifies them. By trying to convey the beauty within the nature of existence itself -and all of its horrors- they open people’s eyes to the knowledge and the acceptance that their own existence is valid. What makes their particular dynamic so bright and unique is their ability to validate one-another’s intrinsic humanity, even in those places where the differences between them are unavoidable. Edited for grammar.

They are very different at every level. Some overlap but not much, and they disagree about most things at most levels: Jordan: 150 IQ Russell: 110-130 IQ Jordan: A trained scientist Russell: A comedian and actor Jordan: Anti-activism Russell: Pro-activism Jordan: Anti-woke Russell: Semi-woke (at least) Jordan: A very strong backbone, regardless of how sensitive he is Russell: Very emotional/weak (hence why he is all 'hippie' and radical and anti-capitalist) Jordan: Anti-Marxist Russell: Marxist/Communist (of some type, anyway, he hasn't really fully gone through that) Jordan: Capitalist Russell: Anti-Capitalist Jordan: Anti-Islam Russell: Pro-Islam Jordan: Christian/pro-Christianity. Russell: Anti-Christian (mostly and very anti-Church as he is more a Buddhist type). Jordan: Doesn't believe in sex outside of marriage/real relationships (more Right-wing personality makeup). Russell: An ex-sex addict. Jordan: Pro-small government. Russell: (A) Anti-government or (B) pro-big government (again, hard to know). Jordan: Fairly high in disgust sensitivity. Russell: Low in disgust sensitivity. If you listen to Russell's podcast with Owens, it really proves all of this very well (along with his other podcasts with Jordan, and his one with Sam Harris to some degree). I mean, in the one with Owens (who is a black woman), he pretty much said -- in so many words -- 'you're a victim because you're black, and I'm evil because I'm white'. And, he was shocked that she disagreed with him, which she made very clear. Pure woke, anti-white, anti-Western cowardly leftist insanity. Not like Jordan at all.

Exactly what's needed. Though I am not a JP fan, I'm understanding more & more the value of embracing those with differing opinions as a means for us all to connect & reducing the division between us. Nothing is gained by trying to shout each other down &, in fact, so much is learned by having open discussions. In fact, I'm hoping to have some meaningful interactions with JP fans on this thread. In the past I have found people willing to talk openly about their opposing views, without resorting to name calling & belittling of course, & got a lot out of it. I've found that a lot of people's beliefs stem from fear & personal experience, which is exaggerated by our modern day disconnection. This means that solutions can & will be found in talking, listening & connecting with each other. So it's a good thing that we're starting to understand how important actual human contact is & will be encouraging each other to connect on the simplest level possible, face to face.

@@artistryartistry7239 the reality is that hierarchy is inherently human nature & nature period. Animals have hierarchy, and plants even have survival of the fittest. Even in your small hippie-style communes... there ARE leaders. Yes, some want 2B the followers "equal partners" but it would fall apart quickly w/o a couple WILLING to do the strategizing/mental work of making it work. As soon as real problems arise, you'll quickly find the leaders, followers, & lazy (or disengaged). As much as it seems "ideal" it doesn't exist. A recent (ultimately less peaceful) example. The ✊in autonomous zones like Oregon... that wanted to live out a Socialist commune idea -ish. "Sharing" stuff other people donated (ie paid for) until homeless showed up... then the sharing wasn't fun & asked for MORE & MORE from people who worked for $ in "the hierarchy" but quickly *they had to protect "their" (unpaid for) land.* From the near beginning a hierarchy was established. Leaders took lead positions, did shake downs checking everyone not within the hierarchy (beyond what police do) and GUNS were touted by those leaders, shots were definitely fired!!! Same thing happens (not always as bad) in any "shared" or unpaid for property.... they HAVE TO DEFEND it... nominating a leader to negotiate & a hierarchy of buddies to protect. Oh and God help the varmints thst try to eat the carrots and lettuce they're trying to grow to NOT starve (another established hierarchy). Its easy to spew that nonsense living in an apartment or bungalow somewhere... live in a REAL peice of property with real survival (or you'll starve) and all that mumbo jumbo goes out the window!

Remarkable interview, a year ago my son was on the verge of suicide, despite having a wonderful wife he was deeply depressed. I asked him if he could have a dream for himself, what would that look like? He said he wanted to open a skate shop, he wanted to be in control of his own life and his future. Ten months later he opened his own online skate shop, it’s steadily growing and through it he’s involved in the local skate community. He has friends where before he didn’t, his growth and self-esteem has been remarkable. All I said was “What have you got to lose? What will you feel like if you never even tried?”. Waking up every morning with enthusiasm and with a goal (not simply the pursuit of money) is so vital, it had to feed your soul.
