This is one of the first confessions of the Russian invaders, which was obtained during the long and painstaking work of the Ukrainian Security Service. The video shows Vadim, a 21-year-old squad commander, who went to war against Ukraine to ‘financially support his mother.’ However, the fighting did not last long for him: crossing the border, advancing to the Sumy region, and then - escorting a column of wounded invaders to Russia.
On the way back, they were defeated by Ukrainian defenders, so the captive Vadim and his comrades in occupation have stolen 2 cars from civilian Ukrainians.
The invader closely fired at and killed a civilian, who had the misfortune to catch the eye of the occupiers. ‘I was ordered to shoot - I shot him one burst. He fell down, and we went on,’ says Vadim cynically. He will answer in the future tribunal for military crimes.

Considering we have no information of what the phone call was about, and no information what the russian troops heard, there can be a few excuses that would render this as lawful killing in a war. Let me elaborate a bit: Various Ukrainian sources have on multiple occasions claimed that civilians were informing Ukrainian troops of Russian positions. That is by definition active participation in a war. And civilians actively participating in a war is... Well, they're effectively treated as combatants by law, if I'm not mistaken.

It's a bit more complex since he was ordered to shoot the civilian. Sure, the soldier did shoot, but it was an order from the superior, and since the superiors are responsible of every order they give, technically, it's the officer that ordered to shoot that should be trialed for the murder of a civilian (and every other he ordered). Following orders isn't a excuse but I'm sure the superior had a gun ready to shoot him if he refused to do as he was ordered. He's a war criminal and his decision was to fire. Maybe unreluctantly or coerced to fire but his action killed a innocent person for fun. This mentality is from WW2 with the Nazis just lining them up in front of each other to see how many they can kill with 1 shot. Nazi Soldiers took it as a challenge and a game to kill as many as possible as fast as possible.

Of couse, "only carrying out orders" is not a get-out-of-jail card, and he knows it. And that's as it should be. But to understand the context, the vid "Russian soldier shot by his own for helping civilians" (currently on Kabi Kings channel) is a dramatic account of one Russian hero who paid with his life for his refusal to shoot civilians, and another who was badly wounded. Well worth seeing.

I expect the extreme level of corporal punishment practised by the Russian military could reduce the sentence these accomplices to war crimes will recieve from a judge.

Russian soldiers defence We just obeyed orders Being a soldier in a war isn’t a licence to deliberately kill innocent civilians. To his credit, Putin says we are not targeting civilians This soldier therefore was not obeying orders He was acting as a murderer. It does show that war crimes are being committed.

The news media is flooding airtime with the story of this Russian soldier facing war crimes. American political pundits in their suits and ties are pounding their desks against this young 21 year old soldier. They salivate justice while they stuff millions of advertising dollars in their pockets. On the surface this story is about right and wrong but it isn't. Like all stories it's about money and power but I'm jumping ahead of myself. First off, this soldier, Vadim Shyshimarin, should face war crimes. I'm not dismissing the horrible murder of the 62 year old innocent Ukrainian civilian. What I hope to see in the trial is Vadim's social media accounts and whether or not he was a young conscript simply following orders and pressured to commit murder or whether he believes Putin's lies about Ukrainian's being Nazi's and derelicts. Vadim was a sergeant in the Russian army which indicates that he performed well enough and was a willingly perpetuating Putin's lies. Uncovering Vadim's past will explain the present. We need to know who was Vadim's superior who gave the order to murder the Ukrainian civilian. This war crimes trial will hopefully answer the questions we need to know and Vadim should face a lifetime in prison. Still, despite Vadim's murderous act, I can't help but feel he too is a victim in the struggle for money and power. In America we like to say the no one is above the law. We know this a joke. Trump incited an insurrection and yet, while he plays golf amongst palm trees and the ocean breeze, his foot soldiers are jailed. Before you say this is liberal gobbledygook let me also say the Obama lied about the accuracy of drones that murdered innocent civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan and that George W. Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction. Why aren't these leaders tried for war crimes? Because those with money and power write the rules. America refuses to participate in the International Criminal Court for fear that our leaders would be subject to war crimes investigation. America is above the law and yet our media is quick to condemn Russia's war crimes. Again, Russia is committing war crimes but will Putin, his oligarchs, or his generals be held accountable? Then there's the Syrian President, Bashar Al-assad, who used chemical weapons against his own people and the world stood by and did nothing. This young Russian soldier, however, is a different story. What he did was a real war crime and he will be made an example of. The rabbit hole is deep... and dark. Privatized American commandos were paid to assassinate political opponents, aka terrorists, in Yemen and yet these terrorists were recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize. Will these commandos face war crimes? We all know that the rules for war crimes were written by those with money and power. The news on our television screens is propaganda perpetuating the illusion of righteousness. We too are a murderous nation. "No one is above the law" is bullish*t.
